The sea-station submarine base concept is wickedly cool.

I'm really liking the new stuff, man. The book cover is great.

Also, I feel your pain on the age thing and trying to play catch up. It gets discouraging seeing so many young artists and artists my age doing so well. But, if you really want it, you'll die fighting for it.

    Good luck, man.

real quick one at the end of day, trying to understand the greatness of sargent. what a legend.

this reads like a kick in the balls!
"Not only by looking, but by copying, he became familiar with the works of the Venetians and other painters before he began his professional training as one of the first pupils who came to the studio of M. Carolus Duran. Here he showed himself American rather than English by a practical common sense and a reasonable docility which led him to put himself in reality, and not in name only, into the position of a pupil. He had none of the obstinacy which leads some Englishmen to think they know more than their professor. These false pupils fear the loss of an originality which they may never have possessed, and which, unless they acquire facility of expression, must remain for ever unrevealed to the world. A vague feeling of originality which cannot be expressed is a very doubtful possession, and may only consist in ignorance of what can be done with paint. People who have never seriously grappled with Art fail to realise how much the strangeness of certain works is involuntary, and arises from the inability of the authors to make them correspond to their intentions. Anyhow it cannot but be good practice to learn to keep to an ensemble of a certain kind, even if it be not of one's own discovery. Thus the artist acquires facility, certainty, and a standard with which to gauge success when he would realise an intention of his own....Mr. Sargent devoted himself to the routine of the studio without seeking to appear original."

Whoa, that is some serious Brit-Bashing! I don't know about that part, but the rest of that quote is so true. That painting of the girl with the paper is also really awesome! It really looks like you're painting what you see, rather than what you think you know. That Sargent study looks pretty nice too. Keep it up man! Even if you are obstinate and pretentious! Haha, just kiddin'.

Hahaha that girl would know, she dumped my pretentious English ass this week. you lose some you lose some
I was reading thrugh a big website of Sargents work and that quote jumped out. I always used to be like that, thinking I was clever and didnt have to work. Now I feel the exact opposite. Its good I think.

    Hi there V

I loved that clarkesworld thingy you found, and " John Carpenter's film "the Thing" is one of my all time favourite films. Being a geek I also feel the need to point out that I think the quote goes :-
"I realise you gentlemen have been through a lot. But if its all the same to you, I'd rather not spend the rest of this winter, TIED TO THIS FUCKING COUCH!"

My other fave quote would be from the bit where its assimilating the dogs :
one guy runs up to anothe guy hiding outside the dog pen and says
    "What is it?"
the other guy replies in a frightened voice "I don't know but its weird and pissed off whatever it is!" ha ha ha ha classic!

Sorry to hear about your split by the way mate, thats rough and rather depressing.
I have some advice for you though, when some idiot says "never mind there are plenty more fish in the sea!"
you need and instant comeback and that is "yeah youre right mate, but who wants to fuck Nemo!?"

I hope I raised a smile! All the very best to you mate.

A great kind hearted lumbering bullock
