Parsakoira looks awesome , you nailed the strong female warrior look, not the "hot chick with sword" as Arthemis IX warned us about. I love the way you do your flesh tones.

not sure which one to go with for my design

Artfix , super nice! She looks really majestic. Great composition and pose

    tempest-haze
I like it a lot, her expression and eyes are awesome.
When rendering the animal please donít let it steal to much attention from her face. I think her eyes are the stars of the show in this image, all the rest should just lead the viewer to them

Only thing i could say is that her legs looks a bit awkward. If you are using a photo ref for the pose donít be afraid to deviate from it, photographs can fool you sometimes for various reasons. But am sure u know all this.

Made a super quick paint over for the legs. Just an ide hope u donít mind!

Starting late, but here's my first night's scribbling.
Trying to stay away from too much boob and oversexy and heading for no-nonsense.

Artfix - love the pose, great use of light.

Tempest-haze - love the face and intense look, really nice rendering - agree with Jager on the adjustments to that leg.

Parsakoira - as always, super awesome. Still adore your use of color and the painterliness of your work. I feel like there's something a little off on her left leg ( hers, not ours ) - It's possibly because her breechcloth looks like it is 'straight' and not tilted to match with the hip and it is throwing my eyes. Can't quite put my finger on it though.

dashinvaine - really enjoying watching that progress!

Jager - can't decide which I like best. I like the sort of regal repose thing on the right, letting us know she's a queen.

Artfix wow... just simply wow! As soon as I saw your piece it blew me away.

/sigh I cannot seem to shake 'hot chick with sword syndrome'

I was gonna enter this, but I can see already that I've been out classed. I'm moving on to something else now, so here's what I was going to submit. I know its a bit babe with sword (I was shooting for regal). However, if you think about it Alexander, at that point, could have just about any girl in the world.

You guys have a lot of talent here.

Beeewwbs! Nice work Parsakoira although it could be a bit more dynamic enhancing the warrior aspect? And I really like Jager's sketches. Especially the middle one.
I just got back from a snowboard-trip (I'm aching all over :p) but I still have a couple of days to join in. Warrior-queens ftw!

jager - perhaps pose from nr2 with helmet from nr3 and rest of clothing from nr1.

Thanks PixelTuner, i did some dynamic poses and sketches, i mean really dynamic, but i thought that i was sacrificing too much of the conceptual and design aspect there

Sounds sensible I guess One thing though, I'd like her to have a bit more of a feminine pelvis. She has a bit of a masculine build at the moment? Probably a personal preference but it might make her look a bit more 'fertile'
if you know what I mean.

parsakoira: how are you doing your colouring?

jager: I like the very left a lot!

baxter: pretty good work, but she looks too much like a man

This is turning out a little more like fashion photography than I intended, but I'm going with it, damn it. I figure that glamor is at the heart of the assignment, so why hide it.

It seems like the trick to depicting this androgynous female warrior is walking the fine line between a pin-up girl with an archery kit and a guy with a boob. I can only hope for her sake that I have time and talent enough not to fail her either way.

I feel exactly the same. She's got to be strong, muscular and manly enough to be the leader of some of the most hardcore fighters of their time, yet femanine and beautiful enough for Alexander to haver spend a full fortnight with her! I have a habbit of drawing pinup girls as it is and I'll think I'll finally have a good idea, show it too my husband and get the response; "Yeah, she's hot"

Haven't been here for a year(s) maybe. Almost lost any passion for drawing, but was lucky enough to come across some good reference
Not sure if I'll manage to finish it until Sunday, but still.

UPD And now that I looked at all WIPs I see that my piece looks similar to Verehins in some way. Awkward. Just don't consider it cheating.

Playing around with a hairstyle which is part roman, part maori and part tribal. As for the top, I opted for just pain bindings.... all else fails, just tie 'em down

Another small update. Digging a lot of the work this round. Crits to come later!

Definitely was too manly before, but I think these alterations make her seem less man and more manly-woman.

Thanks again everyone! last update i show before finishing it for sunday. For everyone who wants to know how i color my work:
I have 100 trained monkeys with photoshops who do all my work just joking! In the beginning i use overlay layers, many of them with adjustments to get the color scheme i want, then i start applying more saturated colors with brushes pretty much. More adjusting and overlay/color layers when needed as i progress

I'm going to take the fact that no one has said a thing about my WIPs as a sign that they're scary good. And not that they're scary whatever.

I really like this assignment. I could spend quite a bit of time doing different variations of it without even considering resentment.

Jager: Thanks for the paint-over! I know how deceptive photos can be; however, I am determined to make the original pose work (: I changed the angle of her leg ever so slightly, but if you still feel it doesn't look right, I'll take your suggestion. (: Also, regarding your sketches, I'd go with the middle one. It has a lot of attitude

tbaldree: Thank you! I'm really loving how yours is turning out as well (:
I tweaked the leg, as I mentioned to Jager above. Does it still seem awkward to you?

    ~baxter:
She's definitely more feminine, but she still seems too masculine. I did a brief paint-over below. I hope you don't mind. I adjusted her torso, softened her face, and shortened her legs a tiny bit.

parsakoira - she seems to be a very big person, with the head this small, yet the guy she is holding appears to be the same lenght, yet with a bigger head.

Thanks, but it kinda seems like your muscle grade/face changes are more of an alternative preference than an improvement. I'm not trying to be resilient to your crit or anything, its just her hard features is intentional to what I had in mind for the design.

    Really cool work everyone.

I really hope to be able to finish a ChoW for once, I hope this is the one. It's not a time issue, but I've ended up failed or abandoning the ChoWs I've tried so far. Hard for me to bring a picture to a finish, or a finish that is acceptable. I have some hopes for this one though.

Everybody is doing GRATE, keep it going.

I`d just like to pick your collective mind, folks - does this look "amazon" (with a Slavic twist) and "regal" enough to you? I`m kinda having second thoughts...:/
Oh well, at least I killed a week`s worth of free time
