    Alla Prima Studies

Hi everyone, I am currently recovering from a disappointing experience in a four year liberal arts illustration program. However, I have contracted a fatal attraction to all things concerning fine painting and draughtsmanship, so I plan on returning to school in the near future for a more focused technical study. I am posting painting studies I have done since college in an attempt to increase my proficiency in wet-on-wet premier coup painting. I hope the following images will give you some ideas and I also hope this will encourage me to be diligent and continue producing studies.

"We are all under the same mental calamity; we have all forgotten
our names. We have all forgotten what we really are. All that we
call common sense and rationality and practicality and positivism
only means that for certain dead levels of our life we forget
that we have forgotten. All that we call spirit and art and
ecstasy only means that for one awful instant we remember that
    we forget." -G.K. Chesterton

Those Sargent studies look really good.

Watch for construction issues on the last painting. Eyes look small and are not placed evenly, and the nose looks large.

These are great man, sorry to hear about your college experience. I checked out your blog as well, I really like the painting you're using for your avatar.

    Brand New Sargent study

Everyone, thanks for the comments and criticism; it keeps me diligent.

Oil on canvas. I used a limited palette for this one: Gamblin Flake White Replacement, Yellow Ochre, Venetian Red, and a black mixed from Ultramarine Blue & Rembrandt Transparent Oxide Red.

    nice man...

    a recomendation...
do a pencil sketch,or charcoal pre-drawing ,just to get confortable with the forms and image, and work out problems of drawing...
then happily draw with paint...watch your drawing improve and your eye too...you will have a much stronger study.
my new site, is crazy stuff but is my own space, I can say whatever!! hehe:
