Whoa, that's a cool one! You left out exactly the right amount, very well done. Just out of curiosity, but what mark did you start with?

Nice animals. I really need to take home of going along the form with the pencil stroke direction, adds so much volume to these drawings.

ARRGGG!! I'm really sorry about the lack of replies lately... been busy renovating my workspace, rearranging, simplifying, new paint job, .. the works ... and I have my digital setup finally! I hope to be a bit more interactive now that I'm finished with the organizing!
jena: Thanks! Although I can't help but think you're the most beautiful spambot I've ever seen
    thisby: Thanks! Very kind words!
psage: Thanks Chad! I'm definitely getting into drawing animals lately, especially horses... so elegant
Grzessnik: Ty! I appreciate the link, It's always great to learn about different artists! I wonder about his process, if he used a lot of sculptural maquettes as reference for the horses in motion, or if he posed his models on fake horses in his studios.. Cheers!
    FUSHANDCHUPS: Thanks! I will!
    twilightmoon777: Thanks!
knut-: Thanks! I appreciate the advice. You are right, a lot of times I put down a sketch a bit too early... Although, a lot of these I return to after I post them
Velocity Kendall: Thanks Al! That drawing was my last drawing of the session, and I only had 10 min left so I jumped into it carelessly. It's funny how sometimes the less you care about a piece, the more interesting it becomes to you... It reminds me of meeting a girl for the first time when there is a push/ pull kind of attraction that happens .
yogeshj25: Thanks! I'm glad you think so!
ryan mcshane: Thanks Ryan! I love classic hollywood actors.. there's something timeless about their beauty, like roman sculpture.
Walnut: Thanks for the comments! Great question! On that drawing, I started with the large broad shadow from her stomach down to her knees, and up to her hands. I try to get the largest relationships down first, sometimes its a curve, sometimes its a shape.. but always something to anchor the rest of the drawing as I work. Before starting, try squinting a lot to simplify what you see and make your decision based on that. In regards to your second post, according to Anthony Ryder's book, you can draw with the form or against the form.. I'm not exactly sure which is which.. but I think the point is to stay consistent with your mark making within your drawing. Hope it helps!
Parsakoira: Thanks man! I love your stuff!
prsnsweeny: Thanks! There's something really easy about drawing sharks to me... It's all the curvy lines i think lol!

    Sweet! Colin goes digital!

I like this latest piece; looks fun to do, and it's definitely a gear shift for you.

I'm always keeping an eye on your thread, whether or not I drop a comment for ya. You must have wacky sleep hours, lol.

No worries Al, I like your composition better anyways lol! You make me look better on YOUR lunchbreaks.. lol thanks!

These are taking me longer than they should, still trying to work through a process for doing things quickly in digital... will make a post describing my settings soon. Thanks!

    love these digitals duude!
lovely strokes on this last one
just a thought though (on the wedding) rather than having the shadows as black as they are, maybe make them a touch lighter and subtly cool or warm
it could really push it that much further
keep rocking man. you make me happy

Velocity Kendall: Thanks for the paintover dude.. ... You gave me a good slap in the head to work on my compositions.. For anybody interested, this article about Alex Toth is really interesting http://sirspamdalot.livejournal.com/83517.html
psage: Thanks Chad! Drawing figures in perspective is tough from imagination. That piece was a fail, but I really wanted to try something in just black and white.. a fun exercise.
Grzessnik: Thanks! It turned out alright, the arm is really wonky though . Drawing with the stylus takes a bit of getting used to. I just play with the brush settings until it approximates a traditional look. I will never leave behind traditional art, but it's hard to resist the shortcuts of working in digital.
    Aryeh: Thanks!
Nettle Mountain: TY! I will do some still lifes in digital, they really help you wrap your head around rendering different surfaces.
Ryan Mcshane: Thanks Ryan! Good catch there, its real easy to fall into that trap with digital for some reason. I always see a lot of digital work with too much black everywhere :{ .

Playing around with Sparth's Shape tool technique in photoshop. Took me a while to sort it out, but once you get going, you can really hammer out a crap ton of comp studies quick-like.
