This is the first lesson of the 2nd book of the art tutorials series, the 2nd book is about the fundamentals, this video is from chapter 1 "light and values". In this lesson, I talk everything light and values, I go over the physics, and the conditions that effect values. Than I go over the value scale, the modeling factors and the way we apply values on objects. Next I do some examples on the 1,2,3 read method of painting values. After that I start talking about cast shadows and how we calculate shadows for different objects. That is for the lecture part of this lesson which is an hour and a half video, then you can continue by watching the exercise video where i do over 60 or so exercises on painting values, casting shadows and doing both in fun and detailed, narrated exercise. If you are starting up as an artist or just want to do fun exercises on values and casting shadows check out the videos and let me know what you think. Hope you find it useful

If you can paint anything you want from a photo but cant design your own concept art, you need to change the way you draw from reference photos. Changing your mentality when expanding your visual library enables you to create your own art from your own imagination with a little help of using the right reference photos. In this first lesson of the 3rd series, i talk about how to look at reference photos in a different way, dissecting the subjects into smaller parts rather then copying the reference photos as it is.

This was the heaviest painting I had to draw lately, so many memories went through my head while painting this, I felt like i was finally saying good bye to my collage days memories. In one way it was hauntingly beautiful listening to all his songs while painting, in other way it was a sad send off. But i'm glad its finally done after 20 years of wanting to pay my respects toward this great artist.

Thank you Syd for everything.. I hope you have found peace where ever you are...

Each one of these bad habits will have its own video. Identifying the bad habit and providing solutions to how to fix it. Hope you find it useful and much easier to follow then before.

This is the 2nd lesson of the first chapter of the 3rd and final book in the new art journey tutorial series. In this 2nd lesson in the series, I explore many design options that is extracted from different photo references. Studying should have a purpose and that purpose is giving you more options to implement in your designs. In this lesson I only show you the first part of the process, which is after dissecting the reference photos in the first lesson of this series, I choose what part can be useful for me to study to help with my design idea. Hopefully we will get to the design part in the 2nd chapter of this book.

Portrait Study no.12 using Frank Reilly's method

    Photographer: Michael-Schnabl

5 hours of Portrait painting in total serenity. Rain outside my window, Music in the air, and a beautiful painting materializing underneath my brush. What else can an artist ask for ?
    Hope you like it
