Rain, what kind of oil paints (and canvas) were you using for the first time? For my first time, I used the cheapest kind I could possibly get on watercolour (!) paper and it didn't turn out half as nice.

well first thanks for your complement im glade u liked it
as for the the oil paint type and canvas.. i talked to a lot of artists before buying anything they all told me to buy the best paint and canvas i can find even for my first time.. coz if u got bad paint ur results will be bad.. and if u just started oil paint and no matter what u do ur paintings look bad u will be discouraged to go on...
i didnt buy the top brand not coz i didnt want to but coz i didnt find it where i live.. so i got Winsor & Newton Winton paints... and as for the canvas i got a white canvas (already gessoed with acrylic white) .. as for mediums .. Winsor and Newton turpentine and linseed oil ...
now as for practice.. i didnt post anything yet but if u like i can post some of the self training im doing daily.. like color mixing and value study.. i use the same paint.. but not canvas.. i use what u use .. water color paper 300gm but i also gesso it with Winsor and Newton white acrylic paint before using it.. it will make ur papers feels like canvas..
in the end.. ur painting will look good if ur drawing is good... the way u see details in pencil drawings is 90% of the painting process..
i hope that helped...

Your portraits, inparticular the detailing of the hair and the anatomy are strikingly beautiful. Play to your strengths and although you may wish to persue digital artwork, I believe that by maintaining what your best at whilst trying other things is the best way to go. Your pencil drawings are evidence enough that there is still a market for traditional art.

Hey J-ace .. i agree with u in everything u said.. actually im waiting for my wacom.. but since im in a far far away country.. my wacom wont be here till march... so till it gets here.. im trying something .. similer but more traditional.. oil painting... it still suck .. i just finished one and a half.. but i cant wait to go digital... i know i will have much more fun.. in much less time...
by the way i guess there is still market for traditional art here ..coz digital art.. is still waaaaaaaaayy in its begining in here... in fact i have an oil painting exhbition in 6 months... i need like 42 paintings .. i didnt do any of it
but im glade you liked the pencil hopefully in practice i will do my oil in the same details...

Hey Rain Walker thanks for commenting on my SB
Your work is amazing, your shading is especially awesome. All of your studies are looking so good.. And you enjoy anime style drawings too!
DBZ's art doesn't seem suitable for your level of skill though.. Why not try learning the style of the master Oh Great!: http://www.mangareader.net/657-32771...apter-120.html
I'm really looking forward to your future posts
