dan liimatta - Thanks for lookin and the advice dude.

    chengnuo1 - Thanks

tried a 15 minute value sketch - was in a mad rush and didn't even get a full value range. Yikes. Learned a bit but I need to do more.

After that I spent some time again workin my lines and anatomy - I'm rusty, but it was a good time.

    'night

dan liimatta - yea I hear ya - it's a kick in the nads to try to speed up that much and get any kind of accuracy. Will work on it for sure. Thanks for the look.

Man - really off the past two days on anything art related - probably sleep dep. Got about 5 hours of sleep total for the past two days. That being said, I'm off to bed.

The only thing I saved was this one - first real experimentation with environments and I played with some alternate lighting - nothing even remotely finished - everything today was like, a 10 minute speed doodle. Must do more studies.

    Night.

First attempt at a still life...starting wicked simple. some pencils too. Thanks for the look.

I'm making a pretty concerted effort to pay attention to angles, concave vs. convex lines, and shapes now. I'll be focusing on this for a while. I'm already seein that my mind is making assumptions that just appear on paper/ps as soon as I look away and start making marks. Hopefully with some serious study I can improve on this.

    -Paddy

p.s. I wish I had the time to take some life drawing classes. Or any classes for that matter. My job being what it is, I have no time. Ah well. Probably be a bunch of foot sketches that I'll likely never post since I can have my hands free for that. Cause honestly. Who wants to look at my feet. Maybe a mirror would help...hrm.

tryin out some new paper. Anatomy studies - still messin around with scanner settings. That thing sucks, but whatever.

Still trying to train my hand-eye coordination a bit during these and develop a linear 'language' I guess. I'm trying to avoid static lines without making it too over the top. I guess it doesn't much matter at this point, but whatever. I'm learnin.

    Thanks for the look.

DariusDS - Thanks - gotta keep poundin on this thing.

Rem92 - Thanks man! I'm struggling a little bit grasping form as opposed to just throwin lines on paper, but i'm gettin there

ok - in an effort to grasp the form of the muscles a little better I'm tryin to render out some anatomy studies. Not entirely happy with the result, but I'm learning.

and a nightcap. I'm gonna start doin self portraits fairly often for shits and giggles as a break from anatomy studies. here's the first.

acecaliber & nickybeats - thanks! I've been focusing hardcore on line-work; long way to go yet, but I'm learning.

Edit: thanks for all feedback below...no updates yet. My son was born two days ago so not much time. More to follow.

those muscle render kinda help, but not quite, if you wanna improve in form rendering, like with values, my suggestion would be to draw alot of still life's of objects, and drawing some nude models from reference, be it from life or photo. also a drapery drawing study will make your brain analyze the form of each fold, and well, you try your best to make it look as real as possible on your paper.

You've been very industrious as of late - love the plane studies in #129 and the following posts - and the self portrait looks good, nice strokes and nice shapes.

ok - not much to show. My son was born a few days ago so I've had 3-5 minutes at a time to sketch just to keep active. Pretty psyched, but art's takin a bit of a back seat at the moment. The burner is still on though.

    Thanks for the look.

Dan - Thanks, dude. Big fan of your stuff, always nice to have comments from you.

Joe - Thanks man - appreciate it - trying out new stuff when able, but kinda time restricted right now.

Wanderer - haha, Dave SMASH! Thanks dude - I'll swing by your book when I get on next.

Rem - yea, dude - you're right. I looked at em again and it ended up being more of a playing with rendering technique than grasping form. Will work on it as I'm able. Thanks a ton for the crit - exactly what I need.

I like that you put a lot of thinking in your lines, it shows that studies look so much better when you think before you do something, rather than just study mindlessly.

    Keep it up
    Stay excellent!

I've just taken a tour through your work and it's great ton see your hard work paying off! I might suggest that you don't ever worry about "style" at this early stage of learning and remain focused on the fundamentals of good drawing: measurement accuracy /drawing shapes accurately, value understanding and line quality.

You may or may not be a fan of Andrew loomis, but I would suggest you check out some of his books ( free for download ol and now new versions cam be picked up at Amazon if you like.. See how he designs the figure mannequin and head? Good stuff to understand.

I love the way you.. well, in traditional work you'd call it "paint handling." Your work has such great.. "quality of value"..? ..beautiful brushstrokes alright? Like, your self-portrait kills me.

And 'grats about your son! ^^
    Keep the sketchbook up!

wow - it's been a month pretty much since I've posted. Time flies. I haven't got much to post and I've gotten rusty - but I figured I have to post SOMETHING just to keep active. only had about 20 minutes so this is definately a work in progress.

m0us3r - thanks man - I really dig the line work in your sketchbook as well. Appreciate the feedback.

kevinwueste - ah thanks. I hadn't realized I was stylizing too much - just makin an attempt to be more intuitive and loose with everything - but you're absolutely right. I need to work on accuracy and placement.

NickyBeats - Always appreciate your comments man - thanks again. And no - not my first. I was overseas when my first kid was born - didn't see her until she was a few months old so this is my first newborn experience. It's a blast but a lot of work. I may not comment that much, but still checkin your stuff out as well - will try to post. Diggin your progress!

zeichenwut - Thanks! Changin things up is somethin I no shit have to do otherwise I slip into the 'shapes shorthand' thing and all my stuff starts to look the same. It's the only way I can keep my brain on the right track...and speaking of which it's about time to change up again! hehheh

AlexTooth - dude, I dig your work a lot. Appreciate the comment. The quality of work I have lately is pretty bad due to time constraints, but I'll get there one day.

Gilles - dude - I've been a silent viewer on your SB for a while. Thanks for stoppin by and for the kind words. I'll try to put more time in. Between work and the kid, not much. Thanks again.

JesseM - entirely too kind! Thank you - I've been trying really hard to look at value and technique - your work is sick (got a chance to look through your sb).
