mengel's new sketchbook (now with ~30% more crazy!)

EDIT: Sketchbook from 4 years ago - I took it out of my signature but still wanted it posted, so here it is!

It's been awhile since I've posted but I'm interested in reviving my artistic growth - see my sig. to see what I came from and keep checking back to see where I'm going!

Bio: 22, computer nerd, degree in some technical and boring stuff, self-taught in art but my learnings have always been heavily led by CA.org. I've been picking up work for friends doing concept art and games' art assets - basically, I'm a programmer who prefers doodling.

Without further ado - This piece was some concept art I did for a friend's game, kept chipping away at it as I did some other work and over the course of 6 hours it came this far (unfinished). I don't normally do full-on concept art for games (usually just UI stuff) so now that it seems I'm "growing" I thought of CA.org

Also, PLEASE post - it'll give me a reason to regularly check in here, and that makes me feel more enthusiasm to POST more

edit: I misspelled 'to'. Full of surprises, Mr Baggins...

Quick doodle I did in the margins while (not) studying for an anatomy quiz - a friend wanted me to try out her scanner, so one thing led to another and it's now here!

Edit: Now that i'm looking at it full sized, I think I'll be playing with the scanner's settings next time - looks a little blown out.

2nd post's pic isn't loading for me. I'd have a look through your old sb, but it's 3am and I'm about to crash. But the first pic in the shows some promise .

So there's a post for you, you evil, evil, evil Nazi Dr. Mengele (Just kidding)

@ Rabbi Satan - Er, I hope the sketches out of medical texts don't send the wrong impression..! Thanks for the reply; responses mean a reason to post because now I know I'm being watched (in that good, encouraging way) O.O

@TacoMeat: Thanks for the encouragement - I'm doing these part time right now so it's always nice to get encouragement so that I don't go the easy route and watch TV or something less productive ...

This batch is from a long trip through america's airports - the character design part is for my benefit as I'm giving Maya a try right now and wanted a model to play with (hence the really simplistic body that's ideal for animating - good'n'floppy due to her height)

Hope these are sized appropriately - since they're sketches there's not a lot of tone definition to make up their bodies so I didn't want to resize them down too much, and I was in a rush so I didn't find the exposure option on the scanner this time... school equipment so there's always a line and this happens to be the school of science's scanner so I get looks when I whip out a sketchbook...

We got some new stuff - I'm trying to learn painting now in my spare time (and seeking work that allows me to do this while paying rent) so we have some doodles out of a lecture of the more attentive students and my first still art painting (if not ever, then in at least 4 years)

    Linked for size:

Below are some paintings that I am ... disgruntled with. You can see my work flow here as well - These make up my 3rd and 4th paintings since I chose to really tackle digital painting (alongside real painting - god willing I'll get some canvas work up here for you fine people). These will be be going up in a dedicated thread though, so please join the critique discussion here.

2 updates - found an old shot from a game I updated the UI on and a smaller image made up of a few pages of my sketchbook.

Hope to get a hold of a good scanner soon to throw the latest stuff from my sketchbook on. Till then, enjoy and thanks for checking it out.
