DUDE! IDK why but every time I look at your self portrait it reminds me of that asshole British guy from Assassin's creed!
Not that your an asshole or anything(i've never even met you ) but the drawing just looks kinda like him and the expression looks like his usual default.

Hope that makes some vague amount of sense. Great updates man your progress is phenomenal

medusoid: that is funny! Not sure who you're talking about though, I haven't play assassins creed yet.

    Ofidian: Thanks, I shall.

Here's a portrait, I think I'm starting to get better at these. This one is a little bit longer than the others, and that little bit longer was a huge help.

hey guys, I have an issue... I just got Oblivion for PC a few days ago...and it's awesome...and I have trouble stopping to do art. I should really put a limit to my gaming, or maybe just tell myself I'm going to draw for a couple hours before I can play. Anyways, here's a quick mountain scene for the stone age game.

love *love* your environment and landscape speedpaints. The atmospheres in them, even the quick ones, are really quite immersive.

Nice job on the the wings man. Poses are still lookin a little stiff but you've made miles of progress in no time flat and your "GAWDLY" landscapes and sceneries overcompensate for any areas your still mastering lol
Keep up the great work and sorry for my intrusion

Thanks Medusoid! I appreciate the comments, I put it here just for that reason.

here's some loomis studies, not trying to get the anatomy 100% right now, just practicing loosening up the figures

I think it's been over a week since my last landscape. I miss them already!!! here's a quick desert landscape from reference. Ahh...if only I could just draw landscapes forever...but I don't really want to do that, I want to draw everything!

    Angel Anatomy

Love the angel concept, but some of the anatomy is a little skew. I've attached an image to assist me. I started out by drawing red lines following the curve of the thighs up to the crotch, then where the thighs hinge with the hip. I drew in yellow the same hinge point, but this time based on the anatomy of your torso. What I see in this is that your torso is raised above where it should be, in relation to your legs - or vice versa.

One more bit on the torso: the abdominal muscles are defined, just as you show, but they're spread out more on the torso, so to speak. If stretched or continued to around the blue line in said attached image, it should take away that empty space and make it part of the torso. It almost appears as if there is no form under it and it's just... body there, just skin.

I've heard those Loomis studies really help with this kind of stuff. I have yet to look through them myself, which I really need to do. Anyway, hope this helps a bit. Someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

again...this is my comfort zone. I felt like painting a good ol' piece like i'm used to doing. But I really should try to focus on my characters now. That and adding more form to my landscapes.

    Hey JBrown,

Fantastic sketchbook going so far in a short amount of time. You are a person after my own heart. Anatomy and Environments. What more is there to life?

Something to help you improve on your figures would be an addition of 3d primary forms to assist in developing the form. Using cubes, spheres, and cylinders can add some solidity. Also, try and pay more attention to the rhythm of the human body. Things like the arms and legs often tend to follow slightly curved paths from beginning to end. Yours often seem somewhat rigid. But I am glad to see you step out of your comfort zone a lot. Keep up the hard work!

Damn your good. Try doing one like this but with bamboo, you can get some really interesting light with bamboo forests.
IDK if you have time or if it would just be awkward but would you mind helping me out on my BG for the city scape with the guy jumping at the screen?
If you can I will post the bg w/out the guy in the way so you can see better.

thanks, if you want, I could help you out with it by giving you a start, but you would have to work over it also. Our styles are quite different. Send me a picture with just the background and i'll see what I can do. You can also just post it on your SB if you want.

Freaking awesome landscapes, really inspiring. I agree with the changes that should be made for your angel, but hey instead of fixing the errors, how about taking the advice and drawing a new angel piece. They're fun to draw so i can see it happening.

Cant wait to see more from you keep it up.

medusoid: I'll get that done soon.

Here's a greyscale portrait. A mix between scrooge, uncle sam, and my great grandpa.

Next up, a landscape for the stone age game.

hey guys, here's a couple older pieces that I just re-worked a bit today. They are for a video game called Dead Plasma, we are entering some sort of contest with the video game. It's going to be something like street fighter, I hear. I really don't know a ton about video games so I can't say.

my technologies... anyways I am realising how helpful life drawing is compared to photo refs... it's so much more... well... realistic. I'll be doing more such drawings. maybe some drapery and maybe i'll even get a friend to sit down for me to draw haha

hey people I haven't posted in a couple days. Im not going to be able to post any of the level designs i'm doing for the stone age game. Also... i have a great announcement.. I got a new job for an indie video game doing environment concept art. I'm getting about $25 per painting which will be great. Anyway, here's a quick mood sketch using some bright colors.
