Pose 3 is the hardest to read at the moment. The last one is quite good. When are you going to start?

I didn't think it was possible to be called an artist when you have nothing to say. It's like being a writer who publishes individual words as books and expects to be praised for it.

    Figure Drawing From My Mind

    Figure Drawing From My Mind
    day 1

This is my first day trying to understand the basic structure of the male anatomy. I know this looks simple, but I actually never gave much thought to the fact that the elbows are situated just above the navel. I always thought the elbow was on a level with the navel. I also learnt that I can draw a "V" from the navel and through the nipples to decide the wide of the shoulders.

Figure Drawing From My Mind, day 3

There was a problem with the side view of the figure I uploaded yesterday.
The gravity was wrong, because I pushed the joint of the leg to face back.

Figure Drawing From My Mind day 3

Today, I have been trying to understand how I can turn the figure seen from the side to a 3/4 pose. It is importuned to understand the shape of the chest and pelvis to do the 3/4 pose.

I did a side-view drawing and created a box around the figure, then I shaded in the negative space around the figure to understand the shaped of the chest and pelvis.

To understand what happens when I turn the figure into the 3/4 pose, I started my first drawing with a grid based on the box from the side view. I constructed the figure in the same way as I did in the side view. As you can see I kept the negative space on the 3/4 view.

Now I need to practice posing the figure in all sorts of 3/4 views.

    Push and pull poses

I am working on a spring painting with a stubborn rabbit and some wee people trying to push it out of their tulips. I am doing a lot of sketches to find the strongest poses for the wee people.

    Hi there!

Love pose two and pose three, just great! Would like to see more rendering though, as the little pose robots clearly deserve more attention. Also, the spring painting is coming along very nicely, but have you thought more about the composition. Don't forget that the movement should come not only from the poses itself, but from the surroundings too - for extra oomph.

    Best wishes,
    Keep up the good practice!

    Hey ranunkel,

I don't know whether I had actually posted in here before..
I really like your studies, especially the Violin stick figures are really interesting- only with the stick figure you portrait so much movement, I envy!
I think you should do more studies from life, or figure drawing from photos under time limit to push your flow and line confidentiality. It seems you keep coming back to stick figures and you feel uncomfortable going further (I understand fully) and I think that is where you have to push.

Just my two cents, very nice traditional media skills(!)

You're getting the hang of drawing figures and you're going in the right direction with that painting.

    I am back

Hi I haven't been around for a long time. I have been busy drawing and painting, but I think it's about time I catch up here.
I am a 2D artist, but I would like to try to learn how to work in 3D. I have looked at Zbrush and Maya. Zbrush is very expensive, to buy. Could any of you advice me as to which software I should get. Is there a free or less expensive software you could recommend for a beginner? I want to play with 3D as a hobby not as a pro.

This is quick sketch I did on heavy textured, and hand made paper. Ink and water color crayon. 10 min. sketch size A3

Welcome back Marianne. We missed you and your art
very much, I am so glad that you are back and posting again.
I am not too much into 3D but I know about Google Sketchup
which I think have a free edition, you can download it and try it.
Zbrush is cool, you can preview ‘Poser’ and 3D Max on youtube,
to see what suits your needs the most. Your traditional skills
are very cool and I fancy the last living tree, I would
print it with a book for children.
    Keep on sharing your art
    and never stop being
    good and positive.
