    Portrait

    Hey guys!

I bought the Zhang Lu Caucasian Female Video a few days ago and it is really great!
Currently I'm doing this one, following the tips on the video. This took about 3 or 4 hours so far.

My goal was/is to paint a cute normal, slightly bored looking girl. I painted the whole thing without reference, to challenge myself more.

So guys and gals, if you see something that looks akward/bad/silly/wrong/tasteless please drop a line! Thanks!

Nice! I like her hat and expression. Her neck looks small and short compared to her head and shoulders. You're probably not finished with the face, but the mouth looks flat and "drawn on" compared to her nose and eyes.

You really did yourself a favor when you got the video. my only problem is the shadow that is cast on her face. I don't see where the source of the shadow is.

I'm the guy that does his job! You must be the other guy!

Perhaps there should be some highlight on the chin? Chins protrude, and it looks like the light is coming from above.

    Hey Kfeeras,

Great portrait. I got that vid too but my attempts fall far short of this.
I'm not sure what blueknightfox is referring to as the only 2 dark shadows on the face are below the nose (cast by the nose) and the one round her eyes/forehead cast by the peak of the cap. Look good to me.

Only thing I see is that it looks very bright and it is difficult to pick out the highlights on the cheekbones/chin.

    Great job though.

The cap doesn't look like than one that can cast that big shadow... It must protude pretty much for that and its shading doesn't tell me that. Its rim is very light too, doesn't look like az object in the cast shadow of the cap.
The face is lit from the front and from above, the chin needs some form shadow too at the bottom where it turns away from the light.

    Hey,

As far as I can see, even considering you didn't used any reference, you did hell of a job.

Sure there are some anatomical flaws(mentioned too strong shadow under her jaw, the area around eyes doesn't seem correct) but hey, you surely know your stuff.

    Regards

    hey kfeeras,great portrait.

The main kicker is indeed the heavy under eye shadow which (as structure would imply) would be the google-esque form you've given. To my eyes, you may be able to give the shadow form more reinforcement by adding a very slight shadow tone on the outer edges(two flat side planes) of the nose- it seems a bit too white. Again,it seems liek the tut did good things for you,but don't be afraid now that you have a neat lookin picture to chuck in an extra layer to test the shadows and see if you can improve it even further.

edit: id love to see more portraits so give me a pm when you get some done...ah nevermind ill spam you :3

    Keep going.
