Here's a simple idea I had when I started out getting really serious about drawing. Start out drawing from observation. But be 100% sensetive to every single pencil stroke/ at the same time be loose about it. Be aware of all the angles in your lines. Erasers is Taboo(initially). Draw the same object as many times as it takes till it looks decent before moving on to another one. And of course, practice alot. Once you keep that momentum up, every drawing will automatically be better then the last.

I see you're painting as well. No problems exploring that. Just make sure you focus on drawing more in the beginning. Good Luck

Thank you krenx for your awesome wisdom i have been drawing a lot lately and i plan to keep up with it i just havent found the time to upload anything lately but i assure you i will soon =) i'm definately going to take your advice about drawing from observation! =)

I also been doing some reading as well i just finished reading Drawing on The Right Side of The Brian by Betty Edwards, and wow are the exercises in that book awesome. You can definately feel a difference from drawing on the left side of the brain and then drawing on the right side of the brain.

Haha, I just tried Betty Edwards "The Vase" exercise. It is clearly odd when I pronounced out the parts of the face when drawing compared to just drawing the shape. Very very interesting.

hi, when you are drawing such stuff like cans, cups, plates and stuf you must do ellipses on the bottom. you can't draw curve wich pretends to be ellipse. it doesn't look good. cheers

still lives are where it's at...keep drawing where you go and attach your sketchbook to one of your limbs for easy access.

I would recommend more still life studies for you -bottles, cans, bowls of fruit, etc. Focus on getting the basic construction and dimensionality of the objects you're drawing to be as convincing as you can. I personally find form to be the most important element in getting better drawings going.

try working with just constructing lines, no value or shading, etc.. and like eveyone has been saying, do some still lifes, perspective, etc...maybe pick up a book or two on anatomy and observing life to draw..everything else can only get stronger if you do this

hang in there, and keep us updated!

    ...the imperfections make it interesting...

Hey mate, I noticed on the eye you drew on that picture it's entirely a 'symbol'
I won't go into too much detail myself, go check this out : http://whitetrashpalace.deviantart.c...LE-1-169660607
Eyes are spheres with a wet surface lodged in the skull and protected by two flaps of skin which happen to have hair which sprouts at their tips.
Now, not romantic, I know, but you have to see that drawing the shape you have isn't the same as an actual eye.

    Look at this:

then look back at your eye you drew.
Analyse what's different and think about how you could change the eye you've drawn to be a more litteral example of an eye. Show me she has eye lids, that she has lots of seperate hairs which are eyelashes and that the eyeball itself is a spherical shape, not a sticker.

Might be a bit harsh, I know. But we all have to snap ourselves out of bad habits. Sooner we know our mistakes and understand them, the sooner you can learn how to fix them and thus improve.

Don't get disheartened from what I say, just keep on studying and striving to improve. Keep up the good work, mate.

    Take a look? - Sketchbook - Tumblr -
Also, why not check these guys too?
