    Sneaky Game Company

Ok, So I've found this guy on board game geek and it turns out that the free games that he's put together uses all stolen artwork. It would seem that he feels that since he's not turning profit from this product that he doesn't need to pay for the art he's using or even inform the artists about it's use.

At first I thought that maybe he's just misunderstand the copywrite laws but it seems that most of the artists he's victimizing are young people on deviantart who don't have a whole lot of exposure. So maybe he's preying on ignorant folks who are unlikely to find out or care if they do.

    What do you guys think?

His disclaimer and credit to the artists is in the rules pdf.

i did not click the links as i have to leave in min, i just want to write a note about 'free' games.

Just because a game is 'free to play' it does not mean that no profit can be generated.

    - Micro payment is a fairly common method to generate cash for example, while the actual game may be free, people can optionally purchase virtual goods of any kind.

    - Advertising. Banner ads and so on, some games generate a lot of impressions, having a portal with many games could get you a nice income with ads alone.

    - Donations

    - Pitch. Some studios try to convince people to contribute artworks or code for free because the game is free and made for fun. This is in most cases not true. The game is often used to pitch some IP, Fundings, Seed capital for a new studio and so on...

    - Using artists to create some minigames or mods for portfolio.

    - publicity

It doesn't look like he's going to be getting a whole lot out of the game financially. There's the possibility that he could use it to promote upcoming projects that could possibly be a for profit product BUT whether or not he's making money from it shouldn't matter. He's still stealing.
