    life Ddrawing 2009 -2010

Heres afew life drawings, done over the last year....I hope to get some feedback to help me improve...don't hold back now.

I am a big charcoal fan, I love it's malubility, it's as close to using a 3 dimensional media, withoput getting out the clay, wood etc.

I also love drawing the figure, peoeple, hands, etc.
I was a big Mort Druker fan when I was 11 and I still flick through the odd copy of Mad every now and again to have a look at his film parodies.

Hey, the last post works are made from photos i guess? If so, sketch some from nature aswell, might be good to draw a 3d object when you can observe it from all angles and directions, than just a flat photo, with a 3d illusion

You might wanna think about the contrast, as a tool for helping to create the illusion of form in your drawings aswell, for ex. puting it in the closer places, or the ones that need to attract the observers eye.

howdy there justas, thanks for the commnets, there are a few photos in the last batch. But I think you hit the nail on the head. Contrast needs to be greater. I have just bought this model head off the internet, Gonna have a go at this today. Cheers for the feedback

Here are afew pics done today.

Th first one is a sheeps skull that was lying in my room, it was done with liner and a wash. The second is some more liner pics, taken from some photos taken by a friend of mine. I just love drawing skulls, but as you can tell I don't like drawing backgrounds, all comments welcome.

this is good stuff. i love the energy in your first charcoal sketches. in the pencil stuff there is like an absence of really dark darks.. doesnt seem to be a problem with any of the other mediums. i'm really loving charcoal right now for that reason.. with pencil it always seems to take a bunch of effort to get a nice black. but charcoal you press down and youre there in 2 seconds

some more pics new and old

The first 10 pics are all drawn from models or, skulls and hands, the rest are some bit and pieces that are from photos. The first pic was done last night, I got a bit lazy at the end and could not be arsed, it was getting late and I had run out of cigarettes. Please leave your comments, as I think another artists perspective is so vlauable in improving.

Just keep on posting. Eventually you'll get to that new page. You can't really control it, once the code finds that the page is full, it will create a new one.

    Still learning

Working on my tones, still need to seperate them tones. I used to draw years ago, but work got in the way, as it does. Need some good feed back.
All criticism welcomed. I have been varying the range of pencils, which does seem to help. Some of the tones on the planed head are well dodgy, and some of the features arnt quite lined up properly. Oh well, heres to the next lot.

    Cool stuff!

I like a lot of your line work, it's unique, i feel like in some places you can really push the dark values some more

I found these old colour stuff I did, done about 5 years ago.
I am going to start some colour today. I have added a new page from my sketchbook, the pen and ink is poor, but the drawings i liked.

Man! You're definately making an effort on structure, and you know what? it's starting to pay off for certain! Keep those head studies up cause they're truly doing something.

    On criticism:
Seems you're trying to get every sketch really clean , wich is nice, but I'd advice no to worry so much on how they come out and focus more on the construction and values , cause there's yet a bit of a lack in contrast, wich is pretty usual when working in pencil.

Also, don't get too focused on head studies, it can be a trap. I really like the cowboy thing you did, it really looks great, maybe you could start also doing some clothing studies, they might come out quite nicely, and that boosts motivation wich is always great. What's important is taking that variety into place, it helps great deal, and when you come back to your usual stuff it generally pays off.

Also try to improve the line economy, not that it's bad or something, cause it has improved since the first posts but still I feel like it needs more work.

And I guess that's it hehe. Anyway, very nice progress, don't surrender and you'll be an ass kicker in no time!

thanks for the crits, thats a very constructive appraisal of my shortcomings.
True also been a bit anal on my lines of late, which actually is not my normal approach. But again much valued crits and will proceed with continuing my education, by the way which artists do you prefer, who does it for ya!
