    Books on Painter

I'm thinking about getting a book the teaches how to paint with Painter. I'm used to painting with oils, and I'm having a hard time transitioning to Painter's tools. I'm hoping a book will be able to show me how to best make use of the program.

I heard some good things about Don Seegmiller's book. Apparently it also discusses character design, which isn't something I need. I'm only interested in painting tutorials. It also refers to Painter 7, and I have 8. I don't know if that would cause any problems.

Would Don's book have what I'm looking for, or is there something better?

    There are NO tricks dude.

Make your first hundreds of paintings and studies and you'll have it down.

i think there are 'tricks', but they are personal tricks that you have to work out by yourself.

there is a dvd that shows tips on painter8 by linda something...

it was pretty helpful in showing me the basics of the program, but was kind of pricey..

I have Don Seegmillers' book. The character design portion does not make up the largest portion of the book, there are great tutorials building up from painting a tree to a full blown character illustration. It comes with a disk mpeg clips, showing the process visually. I too have painter 8 but he explains it in such a way that it is relevent to either/or
of the versions of painter. Ask anyone, from a painter (the program) novice to a painter , and they'll tell you that its a worth while purchase.
