Hello everyone. I've recently joined CA. Saving a proper introduction for the introduction thread. In short, I'm an architect and have been for 9 years now. Trying to get back into what used to come more naturally to me instead of uninspiring, commercial architecture design.
Sketching and conceptualizing as a kid was always more inspiring and I hope to make my way back and then learn further. I'm looking to learn here as I've seen just amazing work.
I'm hoping with some hard work, honest critiques, and your help, I'll be able to make a career change.
That was the short version.
Anyway, I'll be attaching my latest on this first post so that it appears on the thread list.

Thanks for the compliment!
So sorry about the size
I'm honestly so new at this I dont know what to put for size and dpi when i make a new file.
Can someone tell me?
Also how can I shrink the size of that sketch I put up without losing quality?

I need to clarify that this is one of two posts posted in a wrong sub forum. It was pointed out to me so here they are where they should be.
a character concept that i'm deeply working on complete with backstory. A personal long term project.
this is just the leg. its a muscle enhancment of the quads. the wide proportions of the quads is intentional and is a reference to an old lebanese traditional clothes [similar to mc hammer pants]. taken major muscles and outlined them in the muscle enhancing covers.
studies of the lower leg design. felt an old school black boot would do well to ground the sci-fi-ish upper leg. i've added a split toe design to emphasize on stealth aspect. circular discs on the ankle to provide connection to the discs on the hips nad on the bag side of the calf muscle [which has the white muscle enhancement material woven into the boot] there is a circular nerve signal amplifier which will be a bright blue light in a final painting...
composite of both
Looking forward to critiques and advice. Need to know how I can improve.
This next piece is a sketch over a previous work which I cannot credit because I honestly dont know who it belongs to. I wanted to re-conceptualize superman's costume and provide it with some sort basis. I ended up designing a reimagined Kryptonian look which will eventually provide the reason behind a new superman design.
So this is Superman's father Jor-El. Jor-El was a scientist. Stuck with the standard white used for jor-el and the kryptonians, but changed its form to have a low wide-open patel that reveals the logo of each house of krypton. notice the shape of the open jacket is has the basis of the diamond form. Whats also bugged me is that the "S" of superman was supposed to be the an alien character [that of the house of el] but the coiincidence that it looks like an earthly "s" is ridiculous. I took another canon version of the S from the comic books and placed it in a non-diamond form. The new outline of the logo seems plausible i think ....and...hints at the shape of a shirt being torn wide open by clark kent in the future.
If its a faux pas to post thigns that are redesigned over previous pieces please let me know. Again, I have the intention to credit the original piece I designed over, but honestly dont know who it is.
Would be nice to get opinions on the concept and the technique [or lack of ]. I'm not a big superman fan myself, but am interested to hear opinions from superman fans. Thanks all.
below is the original that i painted over
the following is a sketch on a post-it. just practicing after having gone through a scott robertson tutorial.
didnt know where i was going with this but ended up feeling like a cockpit would ruin it. so i didnt add one and called it a science rover named "the turtle"
looks much better before scanning though.
Another 3CH speedpaint. Its really addictive. So far I'm 100%, haven't skipped a challenge. However, I did take 3 hrs for this.
Truly isn't easy to:
- get these things under 1.5 hrs
- do them at a high quality like the pros [thats why they're the pros, right? lol]
Anyway, I present from the 3CH generator:
A translucent droid probe crosses iron with a detective in a cemetery.
This is an old design I did for a mall by the sea for a local competition.
The primary concept here are the ribs of the local dhow's [pearl diving boats].
This gave the design some cultural and surrounding context.
some of the boards i'd done for the competition in 2 days. conceptualized it, modeled it, simple render, photoshop presentation boards, and overlays to help explain. left out the rest of the boards in the interest of privacy for the client and where i work.
Man, that looks really awesome, good luck at the competition.
a quick sketch for Bar Karma, this new TV show where the audience can participate.
Just hinting at reincarnation with the embryos as well as the duality of good and bad with the ying yang form
Hey! I could post more architecture stuff, sure. I just dont know if they are appropraite for the sketchbook section. I'll see what i can dig up!
I havent posted in 2 years i think? Its been a tough couple of years but I've put my mind to getting back into this and have started some painting class for the first time ever.
and what a difference! The things that can be learned!
So here are my updates from the class I started 2 weeks ago.
Input and crits would be greatly appreciated.
First up a line study and tonal study of a b/w frog image.

just advancing the same portrait from yesterday.
added darkest tones, light tones, and highlights
much needed crits
its coming along well, the last image you need a lighter tonal value just off the center. The image looks flat comparing it to the color one.
trying to get at least one study in a day. so here is today's
beheading of judith by carvaggio
desaturated photo of original painting
my tonal study in progress
final with blending
despite blending giving paintings a relatively more realistic look, i still prefer seeing the strokes.
maybe its a personal thing, but the strokes make it more interesting and more alive.
any crits / advice/ comments would be appreciated.

Tonal study of The Beheading of Goliath by Carravagio
another old architecture design i did.
a huge villa i designed that eventually wasnt picked up. i designed the whole villa including internal plans, constructed the 3D, rendered in 3DSmax, and the photoshop presentation board.
i named it The Citadel as a reference to local fort architecture
this is one of the plans. inspired simultaneously by gears/mechanisms, and fort architecture.
