Hey everyone. I have been using this site for a while and I decided that I have to start posting some stuff. I am a 20 year old college student interested in concept art and illustration. The first image is a self portrait for class. The second is a skull study from an anatomy book. The third is a character for a game I am working on. The fourth is an image for class. Any critiques or comments are much appreciated!

Thanks! Yeah I sort of started drawing with Photoshop so I need to take a step backwards and learn more traditional media.

Here is an update to the earlier WIP. It needs a lot of work.

Update. I have been trying to make the images posted earlier a little bit better. Also, another skull study.

    Hey there!

That hand looks ACE!You did a great job with them!
The selfportrait looks cool too,the forms are really showing on it,maybe you could improve the skin a bit,but overall,it's great!
    (a great tutorial:http://navate.deviantart.com/art/SKI...Fdpadigi&qo=40)

I like your work so far, keep it up!

Hey man its looking good. On your last hand that you posted the section just under the thumb is too far out. Making it one solid piece would help with the dimensions. Also you have the dark lines on the outside of the hand. If I remember correctly you would only put the darker lines if two objects overlap like the fingers to give it more of a depth feel. I love the lights and darks you put it and how the fingers turned out.

    Keep up the good work!

I like the shading that was done on the left hand that is bent down. And the two first fingers look well done.

Nice start. I think he needs more meat on his legs. Look a bit small for something that size. His head position to me looks a bit off, maybe extend his head to the left or something not to sure. XD I love the scales on his neck and the size of his wings. Keep it up!

Your sketchbook is looking good. I really like the painting in post #13. Keep an eye on overlapping forms. Your people tend to look a little flat sometimes.

Your self portait is kickass. The hand studies are looking good too. I'd say get some quick figure gestures in for you can start getting more dynamic poses with your figures. Keep it up.

    HI!
Sorry, just noticed your message in my inbox, and I can't reply for some reason so I'll do it here(hope I'm not totally late with this):
The Riven Phoenix DVDs are nice, but there are some critical flaws:he shows you all the muscles, their position etc.but he doesn't really explain how they work,so you have no idea how to use what you've learned in dynamic poses. One good thing:Extremly cheap!
If you want to go with video material,I would highly recommend Glenn Vilppu's DVDs,they are just simply a ton better, his drawing style is great, and he explains everything in great details. Two drawbacks:Not to great video quality and the price.
Still,it is a lot better than the Structure of Man!

The cheapest solution is Bridgman,Loomis and so on,in my opinion the books teach no less than video tutorials, but that might differ for you.

Hope that helps, your figure and hand studies are amazing, keep it up!

Moriah- Thanks! you are definitely correct

Flanagan-I appreciate the comment. I agree that my figures look pretty stiff. I have been doing 30 second drawings from posemaniacs- do you think that will help?

DSmith- I actually got your comment before in my inbox but thanks for making sure! I am sure I will buy the vilppu dvds eventually- for now its bridgeman and hale.

Here are some studies. Based off a photograph on google and a painting by phroilan gardner

Here is the motion library link! Enjoy! http://www.conceptart.org/forums/sho...=1#post2969696

I was lookin at DSmith's post and if you want to understand how the muscles move you should take a yoga class or do yoga on your own. Feel how your body moves as you move from pose to pose.

If you want to read a good book on anatomy that explains muscle movement get Eliot Goldfinders Book "Human Anatomy for Artist"

Really like your hand studies! Make sure you draw from life every day. It could be people, objects, anything! As long as your training your eye to see and your hand to analyze what you see, you will get better!
