It's a liberty that isn't extended to everyone. Why not take advantage? From an optimistic approach, it's one of the few opportunities we have to voice our opinion on the direction of the country. Whether you agree with that or not, it's good to be able to say you've done your part, even if elected officials don't do as you would wish.

Through the eye's of good old George Carlin...

He makes a good point, in a quasi nihilistic kind of way. I'd still encourage you American folk to vote, just be aware of what you're doing.

I'm in two minds about this.

Maybe another term of sociopaths running the country will be enough to bitchslap the people of America out of their delusions. Hopefully the advent of the internet and the freedom of knowledge that it provides will give people the ability to make educated decisions about important issues.

If not... shit... we'll probably have another pre-WW2 Germany on our hands.

Think of it this way, I voted today, do you really want to leave the decision process to people like me?

I get to vote for this guy. I wish I could vote for Jello Beofra or George Carlin, but this is my best choice. For the record I think this song really isn't exaggerating about him. When he was the mayor of Oakland he had a policy called Beat feet. Where if the police suspected you of buying drugs then the police could impound your car.

After living abroad for a year, my ID is from Alaska, my permanent address is in Connecticut, I live in Vermont, and the last place I voted was NYC. And being wrapped up in stuff, I kept putting off my voter reg, and then, suddenly, yesterday, it was November.

    Fail.

Okay. I just negated some idiot Republican's vote in Southwest Pennsylvania...

I just negated democracy by voting for someone who probably spends more time pandering to lobbyists and campaigning for their next term, rather than listening to voters or getting shit done on capital hill.

I used to agree with Carlin, but what does apathy actually do?

Even if you just show up and put in a blank ballot, at least you're saying "fuck you!" out loud instead of just quietly muttering it at home.

Most important, if you're in California, is voting on the propositions. Those props are important, and will affect all of us in California.

Also, I'm not very happy about voting for Jerry Brown either. Damned if I won't have "California Uber Alles" playing in my head at the booth later. :P

North Dakota's not ready for a cartoon duck to represent them. Someday maybe. But I fear there's still just too much ignorance.

You guys don't even have real parties... What's so different about republicans and democrats? Come in Europe and you will see all kinds of stuff. From neo-nazi and socialists to democrats and hippie environmentalist parties. Religious parties, ethnic parties... we really do have a choice here. There was even a party in Blegium who's purpose was to gather the votes of all who didn't agree with any of the others. A party made of internet celebrities just for the lulz and for trolling the elections. Their campaign included half naked chic or something. You are really missing a lot with your two boring parties...

Oh, we have off the wall political parties too, but our two party system basically stacks the odds against them worse than a Keno machine at a casino.

Should've seen when Ahnald got elected govonator of California, his strongest competition was what? A stripper?

I seriously don't understand California - we are massively in debt (so bad that the government was going to hand out IOUs for tax refunds) and our taxes are sky-high. The state is a fucking mess.

Yet instead of electing 2 businesswomen as governor/senator, they keep in career politicians, both uber-liberals.

So if California is so liberal then why did the marijuana vote go down in flames? Who the hell was voting for Boxer and Brown but not voting for legalized pot?

dirty ape- I do agree with you, kind of. Especially not by voting red. The governator already tried to drop taxes and cutting the paychecks of civil servants and we are even deeper in debt and we have less jobs to boot. Our state colleges can't afford to offer the classes necessary to graduate, if you can afford to pay tuition after the recent 40% hike. Our paramedics are getting paid close to minimum wage. Do you think Whitman is qualified for such a problem. She's never even voted before, she just got rich off of running an online pawn shop. I'm not saying voting blue is a feasible answer. I don't even see any easy answers other than hitting the restart button and doing the flat tax thing and the pay as you go policy implemented in the Clinton administration. But it's not an option because the public and corporations wouldn't want to deal with that kind of sacrifice.

I'm disappointed in the dems. I wasn't really old enough to be politically aware under Clinton so I don't know how it went then. We were promised real change yet that's not really what we got. We've gotten vague frameworks of change but that's about it. Maybe that's how it has to work, I don't know.

I hope the people who voted republican did it for something else other than thinking Obama is a Muslim socialist Maoist Stalinist Nazi who's killing America.

Many of the democrats that got into office last time were really republicans in disguise, which is why the party flopped around so badly. This time they just showed their true colors. It's a classic attack strategy to take your opponent down from within. Worked just like they planned it.
