Critiques needed of my various works.

New to Concept Art and have been dabbling in sculpture for years off and on. Only recently have I buckled down and made a concerted effort to improve my skills with the aim of perhaps one day working professionally. I really need some feedback even if it is only to say whether you like or dislike or to leave a rating on my gallery page.

What follows are a few pics of two of my most recent endeavors. The Behemoth creature is one of my own design and was made entirely out of Super Sculpey Firm around a wire armature. The Orc miniature was a task that Games Workshop gave me after I submitted a portfolio to them in order to get a position as a trainee miniatures designer. The task was to sculpt as exactly as possible a game piece that they provided - in this case a Black Orc. So the miniature you see here is done entirely freehand in Super Sculpey Firm and Green Stuff around a wire armature.

For more pics my gallery can be located here:

Some of the works shown are not in a finished state. In fact, none but the Behemoth is finished. I have other works that I will be adding to my gallery eventually but these too are not finished. When they are you will be able to see them on my gallery. Thanks

So far as I can tell, the work looks great.

The presentation here, though, could use a lot of improvement---two of the three photos are out of focus and the third one is cropped in a way that's hard to tell what it is. Also, the crowded background makes it hard to tell what's going on. You might want to re-photograph the sculptures in a more controlled environment--natural outdoor light and some kind of neutral, flat background (I made a miniature photo studio with a seamless backdrop out of a cardboard box and an 18 x 24 sheet of bond paper--you could do the same.) It might also help to shoot front and side views of the things so people can get a sense of what they look like in 3D.

Edit: the new photos you posted while I was writing the foregoing look a bit better, but it's still hard to get a clear sense of the forms.

I totally agree Giacomo. I am certainly no photographer but I will perhaps get my wife to help me with this aspect as she has some expertise. For the moment I just wanted to get something up that people could look at. Thanks.

The behemoth road builder is really cool. Like an angel from Evangelion.

    Thanks

Thanks for the feedback. I always find it interesting to hear how people interpret what the Behemoth is and what he is doing. 'Road builder' is a new one and as good an interpretation as any. I of course have my own ideas about him but I usually let others decide for themselves - it allows the work to be both literal and interpretive at the same time. Again, thanks for the feedback. It's amazing how many people just don't bother.
