Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man."

This will sound harsh but: I see no improvement since the start of this sketchbook. I read some of the other's replies and I feel like they're screwing you over by not telling you this.
You're drawing a lot of things, but not getting the principles behind them.

That mushroom looks sturdier than the rock. The vertical is clearly stated in the mushroom, but the rock wobbles against the implied vertical.
http://www.conceptart.org/forums/att...5&d=1190669083 Value changes when form turns away from the light, so that there is an illusion of depth, which enhances believability. There are 10 values, the first thing to do is to define dark and light. You'll find that if you cut the scale in half light will be defined as 5 and below, and dark will be defined as 6 and up. Keeping that in mind will automatically up the consistency of darks and lights. Buy some markers, make a value scale, then match that scale with pencil, refer to that every time you render.
Other that that get some books on drawing, look at stuff by John Ruskin, J. D. Harding, Robert Henry, Niccolaides.

What is the right thing to do?
