Big Update pg 7 ---The Art Department Student Showcase: FREE TAD CLASS on pg 4!

This first year at The Art Department has shown great results and the worthy journey continues. Careers are being built. Skills are being developed. Artists are being made. It is an honor, and a joy to be a part of it all. This thread holds a current "Best of TAD" thread from the first semester of students. There are students of all ages and abilities here and everyone participating is growing a lot.

We have been teaching Composition and Color, Observational Figure Drawing, Media, Perspective, Photography, Light and Form, and Sketchbooks/Idea Development. As we push through the semester and ready for the next, starting in Jan (The upcoming classes are listed here: http://conceptart.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=221 ), we are both proud and humbled to share all of this work.

The students in TAD have been working incredibly hard as they are focused in the first year of foundations and prepare to head into their chosen major a semester and a half from now. Some students are taking single classes, others take a few, and many are full time, giving their all. Some are doing their classes at night, others on the weekend, and having them available to watch again and again has been helpful.

With all that said, here is a body of art from this very first semester in the program. This is not all of it, and there are still many more to post but it is a good start. I look forward to the rest of the semester and the upcoming classes in Jan. I will be sure to update you all with more goodness as time goes on.

    Enjoy the show...

Just did a huge update in the above post.

Thanks for the kind words. We are all working very hard here.

Students are already getting freelance too!!

And I have secured another internship opportunity for students when they graduate. More to come.

I scrolled really fast through the first time by accident(very sensitive scroll button) and i was bombarded by a kaliedescope of Art. The effect on my self esteem was oddly both crushing, liberating, depressing and inspiring.

whew! got through without resorting to "emotional rollercoaster"

Seriously. you TAD folks got some serious digs, and i applaude you all.

I can't wait to start!! I just did my first payment so I am so there when you begin in spring! A shame I don't live in America for the start of semester workshop though! I so want to meet you people in person... Any news about the Amsterdam workshop? It's a long shot, but I'm hoping I'll be able to afford that one!

I am not done uploading. There are still quite a few to share. I will update as my schedule clears. Brazil has been an incredible journey and I have been surrounded by so many talented people. I look forward to getting back to my POD and hearing how this weekend's art festival went. Again, there are more students doing great work and I will update soon!

    Kudos Jason and TADlings

It's obvious this is a very complete illustration course, as is evidenced by the wide gamut of styles employed in these illustrations. I've always felt that's the best approach. Many of these exhibit a visual maturity that is rare among young illustrators today - young illustrators who just want to make pretty pictures and if possible get into IFX. At the same time, the pretty pictures here are not just pretty - they are, like their more mature counterparts, beautiful.

This one particularly caught my eye:
    http://attachments.conceptart.org/fo...1&d=1287428082

There's also the image of the cat playing with the mouse:
    http://theartdepartment.org/general/WEEK6-myojutsu.jpg
absolutely love the use of the sky-blue to make the cat look playful. Feeling the repetition of the whiskers to balance the composition is creating tension in odd places, but very very cool solution nonetheless.

    Fantastic work, and, again, kudos.

Lots of incredible work being done through TAD. I greatly enjoyed the wide of range of styles and the diverse collection of talent. The piece of the little girl holding the flower by Jama Jurabaev especially blew me away. I love the lighting, and how it reminds you of the perfect day. I could look at that piece daily, and feel as though it would serve me very well on those days when I can't seem to find the beauty in anything.

I had a lot of lessons learned in teaching and seeing what ConceptArt.Org has done with education in the past years. We wanted a program that encouraged Personal Point of View and individuality as that is what makes an artist special and marketable. Not only that but when we get to working as teams in the entertainment design program after foundations, we will be working very heavily on the reality of IP development so that students have more options at career success than doing freelance or getting a job somewhere.

Entrepreneurship is an important part of creative success and that side of the program is set up to excel. We are not here to turn out portfolio after portfolio of student work that pretty much "looks all the same". I don't want faceless students coming out of this program. At the same time we have to be able to be sure that artists can work as a team, in ways that keep the bodies of work unified. Individuality and the ability to work seamlessly on a team are hugely important when you look at all the ways artists can be successful.

There are a lot of up and coming artists in this program who will have their works showcased in the coming months. I still have more works to upload as well and will as time goes on. The students who are the youngest and are just getting their feet under them will shine and those who have taken the lead are already doing so.

It is an honor to be teaching with what I believe is the best faculty group in the field. These are true teachers, giving their all, and when the first batch of students complete the program five and a half semesters from now there are going to be artists poised to be the next generation of stars right here on ConceptArt.

Thanks for taking the time to look at all the works. I have never seen a foundations semester body of work like this one. It is better than the graduating classe,s at the art school I went to, and I was in there with a list of artists that are industry names now. The TAD students are going to be rock stars or the quiet success they deserve to be, much faster than what I or my colleagues had to go through. We do not have to wish for success when the information and support is there for artists to take it and do with it what they wish. It is their dreams...and we are here to help.

    Best,

    Jason

Every day I go University on my course, it makes me realise how much of an AMAZING opportunity this stuff is for everyone on TAD. Especially guys who get to go to the PODs in the US. The quality of the work clearly represents the quality of the teaching.

Id kill to go back and start again doing something like this. Its almost unreal for me to see such amazing teachers and tutors actually doing teaching - and when the prices are so reasonable too compared to what Im used to paying it seems even better.

Amazing work everyone and Keep it up!!! Make the most of it!
    Cheers for posting Jason.
