Nice open topic, and some cool ideas already. Here's hoping I can find the time to cook something up this week. Most of the time I hardly come any further than some pencilsketching. Which is fine of course, but nobody sees it :p

    1st post

    hey guys.
for a while now i have seen my buddies going into this site to find inspiration and i told myself "once i have the free time and a wacom tablet ill want to start doing these weeklys."

this is my first weekly because i am more comfortable in visualizing characters more than landscapes and creatures etc. eventually i will want to attempt every other weekly every other week so i can get out of my comfort zone. now ive seen a lot of good work so far for this one. i apologize i might not even meet the deadline, i work really slow even with all of this free time.

i would like to hear some back if possible, even though it is just in the first stages. i put her in a position where she is floating and getting splashed from the back.

i had a struggling battle getting her hands right, i doubt they even are still but i wanted to show that she is giving away the sword. i just added a sort of robe on her but that is just a place holder for a more elegant dress or night gown.

thanks a lot, you guys have a helpful and professional community and i look forward to sharing many works of art with you all.

    Couldn't resist

Adding some quick lach-land lady of the lake nuttiness.

.....Well all the archetypes are already there on google so I thought I'd try going somewhere else.

    lakers

i imagined the lady as a slave of a strange person, who carries her on the lake on some kind of boat what is supposed to be decorated as a tiny island.
they do strange businesses with travellers, like selling swords.

rgeorge: I like the sinister atmosphere, the sword seems too short to me.

    PxelSlayer: Beautiful colour and textures.

Art4All: I think you should turn the detail up to eleven. Go crazy!

tbaldree: The blood from the sword looks awesome, very cool colour scheme, and I really like her face and the way you put Merlin in there.

Lodin: I don't know if that design really gets the "Lady of the Lake" feel. Looks more like a mischievous spirit to me.

    Arteater: Nice composition

FridayEve: Subtly creepy, I like it.

Gavin.Gray: Interesting design, I like her head thing.

Reedux: "Needs more neon blue lights and armor, ye?" Hell yeah!

SunRoamer: All three of those sketches look like the could be a really atmospheric piece.

Sharppointystick: Always cool to see a humorous take on a CHOW theme.

    ramachado: Powerful composition.

lach-land: I love the hair and costume on the first one. The second one has a nice composition.

cz64: I can't say I personally like your interpretation of the character, but it IS very original, so mad props for that! Looks like your drawing will really sell it as well.

Here's where my lady's at. Want to keep this one simple. Crits appreciated.

Helloooo, here's my 2 cents I kind of wanted a dreamy watery soft look with a modern fashion twist in it. Right now she's pantless, but either she'll be clothed or just obscured by a plant/fish/helmet/carriage-wreck I spent way too much on the face already...

Decided to go with 1 Thanks for the feedback so far!
So yeah, going black and white and then colour is totally strange for me, and I think there are better ways to do it than what I did... also, maybe I shouldn't have had the Lady as a black block, kind of, because it makes adding colour so much more difficult! xD

Maybe you should consider where you put your focus... this is a character challenge, and well, your character mainly consists of... tits. Boobs may be nice and nifty and stuff, but there should be more to a lady than just her cleavage
I like the colours you used and the way you rendered her. Just follow Thélema's advice and be a bit more careful with anatomy and stuff

    @ramachado:

Added Arthur reaching for the sword and put them in a keep, then worked up the values. Coming along I think.

    lady of the Fake

the Lady of the Fake is more like an institute than a single misterious woman.
a secret hermit order is responsible to collect suitable young virgins (officially drowned and dead) to keep the legend of the lake living and rising, and at not least to have some influence on the knights and that tricky merlin.
so far the 'behind the scenes'.

for an instant fail, the linedraw is a bit too thin...

Some lovely contemporary versions of her...I don't usually have time to comment but I do today

pixeltuner ...nice sketch, her bottom lip keeps distracting me though I reckon a tad smaller? I like the caricaturisation of her face though. And ooh, maybe seaweed wrapped around her legs or algea knickers?

ramachado Nice first post.. I really like the pose and composition, her hands are ok, maybe a little too long and the spaces in between are inconsistant but generally they're looking good. Her jawline needs to be a bit stronger too it's getting lost in her neck a bit.

lachland I love her costume in the first sketch and her expression has loads of character. I like the second sketch better though, you've captured the dreaminess and the magic

cz64 Interesting concept! I like the idea and lovely drawing can't wait to see it finished.

ruri Lovely stylization..her left eye is bigger than her right though and her hands are a bit small for the proportions but that's just my personal taste like the fishies!

fudoki I like the composition so far although she needs alot of anatomy work, early days yet though

sunroamer Nice colours and I like her face. I always find it is easier to block in with the mid-tones first and then add shape with shading and highlights on top, but that's not too far from starting with the darks and then buildling up from there. Keep at it, looking good.

Uangelblade Nice composition, a bit hard to see what's happening, wasn't until I saw the knight on the right that I realised she's a giant. I like the second to last sketch on your wips, the background colours are really nice on that one.

Art4all oooh pretty! I like her pose very much, the sword coming out the water is a nice touch.

Gavin.Gray lovely sketch, I really like the style and her costume is cool.

Migsta Great colours and lighting :d can't wait to see it finished.

Here's my initial ideas, I think the one where she's sitting down...I don't know, what you do you guys think?

    CHOW #218 Matias

Not too sure about her hair, its a bit intense, might have to play with values on the body too. We'll see how we go! I'm also focusing of the excalibur side of her story, I was big into the King Arthur story as a kid, probably the earliest 'fantasy' sword & sorcery I'd gotten my hands on!

    lady of the lake!

this was a fun one to work on cause the subject matter is way out of my comfort zone.

so here's what i came p with. i tried to take her in a different direction. making her more of an under-water alchemist. so here laboratory is at the bottom of the lake, where she can enchant excalibers and whip up sweet sweet potions.there's her air tanks anchored down to the bottom of the lake with some chains and some floating flasks.

basically i wanted her to be like a very powerful mystic who's power was only truly magnificent when at the bottom of her lake. this was a lot of fun, great topic ;D

    here's the WIPs:

ArtbymanonI'm so glad you had time for quick sketch and wow what a sketch looking awesome! enjoy the comic show

    My updates...
Thank you! I've just found out that Jonothan Ross of all people is going to be there... lol
And Simon's Cat guy simon tofield AND Charles Vess!! SOO exciting...

I've always wanted to do this character, and underwater seemed appropriate. YET another nekkid woman. Ho hum...

I'm really liking yours Angel, at the moment though the breastplate thing doesn't read that well, it looks like she's just got a dark boob? Also, is it covered with the 3/4 rule since you can't see her legs really? not sure how that one works...
