I'm putting a new computer together and wondering if anyone has any thoughts on what would be suitable for use with Photoshop, especially in the following areas:
- Would a quad core have significantly improved performance in Photoshop compared to a dual core?
- With RAM sizes in the double digits of gigabytes is it worth investing in a scratch disc?
- Does a RAID setup help improve performance at all?
Thanks in advance for any help or tips anyone can supply!
1-Probably not, depends more on the CPU architecture than just on the number of cores alone.
That seems to be the general consensus I'm finding, which is good to hear.
I'm not sure about the CPU part, but loads of RAM has had a significant impact in my system. I bumped it up from 2GB to 4GB and there is a pretty good (not great) difference when painting with large sized brushes.
Don't bother looking at my sketchbook. I haven't updated that thing in years. :/
Yeah I've been running 4gig for a few years, probably gonna bump that up to 8 with this computer.
