The Rider on a White Horse

    Hey guys!

I'm working on this as an entry for a contest about local legends. This one being "Der Schimmelreiter" from Northern Germany.

I'm already planning to rework the horse - the body is too short (I keep doing that). So, as I'm already prepared to rework stuff, it's a good moment to ask whether there's anything else you guys can see that needs fixing.

Agreed about the horse; the forelimbs look weird (though I'm not an expert on horses, they seem almost dog-like) the chest is a bit puffed and the head is turned at an odd angle. like the dynamism shown in the rider's pose though.

The scene seems a bit flat overall, what with the waves obscuring the background and the lateral movement of the horse and rider in profile. Not sure how you can remedy that without having to redo the whole thing from a different perspective.

The coordination between back and front legs seems a bit off. I found this neat picture that shows a full gallop, which might come in handy. Personally I think the top left image and the one below it are pretty kickass

Nyarg, CA ate my post. (Ketchup?)

Calling this one final (as far as the sketch before the lineart goes). I haven't done anything with the background since the last sketch; this'll be done on watercolours and I maily wanted to pin down the main flow of the lines and forms at this stage.

I'll be back with the lineart tomorrow - unless any of you finds something glaring to whistle me back before that.
