Artiphats : Go to page 2, #37 for new stuff after a year and half!!!
Jump to page 2, #37 for new art that has been posted after a long 1 1/2 year abscence!!!
For the last several years it has been an honor to be a part of this community. This is where I come for inspiration, and guidance, and it has been a home for some of my artwork as well. I finally decided to start a sketchbook page, and I will work hard to keep it updated with anything and everything I can find time to upload.
For starters I put together some of my sketches from a gesture class I am currently taking. These are done in pen and prismacolor, and are all from live models. The poses last 30 seconds - 5 minutes, so speed is an issue and the professor pushes us to concentrate on the lines of the model more than anatomy and details.
Thanks for looking, I'll post again soon!

Hello artiphats and congrats on finally starting your sketch book!
Lovely start I might add. Very tidy post! Must have taken a bit to clean up and arrange these.
Figures are looking good. You could add some more detailed studies of your own,
aside those from the class you are taking, and really concentrate on it all.
Planes, anatomy, rhythm, proportions etc.
So far so good in any case.
Keep at it!

ughh, I have tons of sketches I've done since I started this page and just haven't gotten them up. Well, I'll work on that! For today I want to post 2 sketches I did for the 30-day December Challenge over on wecookart.com / Kitchen 4.0.
Everyday in December I am committed to sketching anything I want for 1 hour, in addition to any other work I have, and posting on the site. So I might as well post here too Good way to keep the sketchbook up and kill 2 birds, ya know!
These are just out of my head, made them up as I went...

Here is a piece I've been working on since yesterday. It's for a contest on another site where you have to take a fairy tale character and make them sexy. I choose Princess Tiana.

Post 10 is really cool to look at. Keep it up.
But the bird thing: I do not like it. Its stance/pose is unnatural. It would lose its balance and fall down straight to the ground.
Try it again, with a weight line to figure out a cool pose that is working.

Cool sketchbook, i dig your ideas and your finished products. your rough sketches have a lot of life in them, but be careful when placing your final lines so you can better preserve that feeling. Also, those life drawings in your first post are great, do more like that and y'll be going places fast.
keep it up!

Thanks Austen, those life drawings at the beginning were from a class I had, and they were only a few out of hundreds I did in that class. I have another class similar starting in spring so I should have a lot more like that in the months to come. If I get around to it I'll post more of the ones I already did.
Thanks again for the kind words, and yeah I had a professor tell me the same thing about my lines and being careful not to kill emotion in my drawings, good eye sir!

nice SB, you should keep up the gesture studies! those are really helpful
i think you're a bit too obsessed with outlines, and neglecting volumes in the process. you do volumes in your technical/perspective drawings, but for characters you try to let the outline do too much for you and it gives it a kinda traced look
i think i recommend it too much, but andrew loomis' books would be a great read for you

Thanks Neon Duck, yeah I have the pdf versions of several of Loomis' books, my outlining is a known issue, and I am definitely working on that. Thanks for taking the time to comment though, glad you like my SB
