    Post your ABSOLUTE favorite commercial graphic design illustration

    Following Kev's thread:

    Post up your absolutely favorite graphic design.

    1 post only per person. 1 graphic only per post.

    Not a composition. Not a sketch, a full blown graphic design illustration.

    Try to list the artist and date.

    No comments except thanking other posts using the thanks button so every post contains one composition and the thread is clean and quiet. etc, etc,etc..

    Here's mine;

    Gruau illustrated the work of Balmain, Balenciaga, Schiaparelli, and Lanvin. Turning the spirit of their creations into by the 1950s and 60s their brand images-

    "Everything must serve the idea. The means used to convey the idea should be the simplest and clear. Just what is required. No extra images. To me this is a universal principle of art. Saying as much as possible with a minimum of means."

    I'm not sure if this counts, but Ilaekae's reminded me how much I dig the work of Leo and Diane Dillon.

    The cover to Dangerous Visions, edited by Harlan Ellison. 1967, I believe.

    "Contrary to the belief of the layman, the essential of art is not to imitate nature, but under the guise of imitation to stir up excitement with pure plastic elements: measurements, directions, ornaments, lights, values, colors, substances, divided and organized according to the injunctions of natural laws. While so occupied, the artist never ceases to be subservient to nature, but instead of imitating the incidents in a paltry way, he imitates the laws."-Andre Lhote
