    Andrew's Self Portraits

Finished up nine self portraits today. Most I've ever done in such a short period. Anyways, thought that you guys who hang around this section might get a laugh out of how bad they are.

Umm...yeah. I guess I'll update this thread whenever I get around to more self portraits, but don't hold your breath as I don't do them too often.

I'm back, though nobody noticed I was gone...

Inspired by one by A La Bapsi that is done like this. Not sure how this will turn out on other screens (hope it isnít just a black rectangle), but on mine it is nice and dark but there is still a lot of detail visible. I think it is the most restricted value range I have ever painted with, because the only light source was the light from my monitor. I am fairly pleased with it and the likeness considering that A) it took one hour, and B) I didnít do a line drawing underneath, rather just painted in flat values starting with big shapes and moving to small ones as I saw them.

Hi Andrew just wanted to say I really like your self portraits. My favourites are your 1st post in pencil with all the different poses and the one inspired by A La Bapsi is very nice. I look forward to seeing more.

    marina_koleva: Thanks!

Marian Rowling: Thank you, those are also probably my faves.

jeremygordon89: Yeah, haven't been doing many lately, but I will try and do some more this break for you to see.

Not a painting, but was fooling around tonight and I guess it counts as a self portrait. There were a ton of them like this, but I won't spam the thread. I also have a pencil SP I am waiting to post--I gave it as a Secret Santa thing on the site, so need to wait till after Christmas.

    Andrew's Self Portraits
haha couldn't help myself, it's almost uncanny xD
you handled those dark self portraits really well, too. 8D
i have this nasty habit of messing with my monitor brightness while painting stuff from life, which can make a huge change in the lighting situation. It looks like you got that shit under control, though [and i'm jealous!]

bapsi: Thanks! I do believe I am jealous of your skills though.

Okay, this one was done for Secret Santa way back when, and I posted it in the Secret Santa thread today because I don't expect it to arrive for Randis at this point . Ah well. Here it is anyhow. I feel a bit weird posting something this old (it looks baaaad now--oh god the eyes!!), but whatever. Hopefully I will find time soon to do more self portraits.

I like very much the last one! It looks there is something wrong in the eyes, but it doesn`t bother me at all, it`s still looking good.

hi. Just wanted to say that your drawings are nice and I really liked the first one, the one with many faces on it. Funny but really good. Keep it up. ^___^

Marian Rowling: Thanks! The nose is probably the one thing I like on that drawing now.

marina_koleva: Thank you! I on the other hand am really bothered by the eyes...

KyrieElrik: Thanks! That one was a fair bit of fun.

Soooooo I need to do more self portraits. For tonight here is a 30 minute sketch. I'm amazed at how much the shape of my eyes change when I tilt my head back.

Figured I may as well post these here. First is done for a group blog I am a part of (Zombies Guns 'n Swords) in which every Saturday is self portrait day. The second is my entry for last week's Teen Challenge in which the topic was a jedi self portrait (you can still go there and vote until the 27th).
