Fast Art - thanks a lot! Your SB is incredible, BTW

Beelow - thanks a lot for the crit - I appreciate it. I think you're right on the backlight sun - I'd rather remove it than darken the foreground and backlight as I don't want to lose too much midtone detail for a CHOW entry. Maybe I can get away with something a bit smaller in the background - smoke and embers from a burning town, or something like that. What do you think? Thanks again I'm still a pretty humble beginner compared to your awesome work.

Tonight I switched gears a little because I have another submission deadline looming, so I took a bit of time to start working in colors and some rendering refinement on my ArtOrder entry for the 14th.

Bouncing back to the Berserker. Some background refinements based on Beelow's crits, and more rendering refinement and some color work.

so much character in the face. Nice chow entry. Don't be affraid to use reference when you are not sure of things. Texture of firs, value placement on muscles and other things like battle axe, to get stuff right as far as textures. I usually pull up other paintings and search for photos to help guide me to my destination of what i want. Great stuff though. Keep it up. nice save on the chow, it really worked out better.

LA-Fairy Thanks a lot They were some of the most fun pieces to do.

Beelow - thanks again for the suggestions - they helped me out quite a bit. I used ref for some of the musculature on the CHOW piece but should have used more - and especially for the axe. I don't mind the more ambiguous fur too much, but I can already pick out lots of little anatomical issues that I wish I'd addressed, and I'm not too happy with the composition as a whole - just not very well balanced. For me it mostly ends up being about wrapping it up, taking stock of the failures on a piece, and trying to learn from them to make the next one better. Again, thanks a bunch!

I think I'm pretty much done with my ArtOrder submission - any last minute crits are highly appreciated! I started this thing back in October, after going through 2 other completely different variants, and then sat on this one in value for nearly a month before coming back to it to wrap it up.

You can see from the process that there were some fairly big mistakes and wrong turns that got corrected along the way.

    Hey!

I really like the last painting. Nice atmosphere and the character is looking great.
Some figures have a lack of three dimensionality (öhh, does this word exist?), but the last painting is great!

    Keep it up!

Jeff Bridges is awesome. True Grit was great. 30 min speedie of the Dude. I went really scribbly and loose on this to try it out. Maybe I'll take it to more of a finish.
