These are good color studies and I like your sketchbook work. How's your perspective work? Practicing that as well?

    Note to self -
Don't try to paint in an awkward position...

Laptop on floor, tablet on knee whilst lying down... Neck feels dead and there was hardly any room for long strokes on the tablet. Anyway - quick thing of the front room. Hopefully i will refine it once my neck has recovered...

    Very cool post (#125)
I like the perspective and the atmosphere.
But try to use a default hard round brush instead of the one, that does those hard edges.
    Very good work!

    Cheers

This sketchbook has a distinct lack of Adrien Brody.

Been woking non stop today on poses, construction and such. Trying to build line confidence, basic anatomy and get my basic layouts more accurate.

One page of many, mostly terrible so shaln't dump here. Looking for any advice to be given, i need hard crit to improve. D:

Cheers TFsean and alizak, means a lot to have some support

Not studying anywhere atm, just sitting at home slowly clawing through uni applications.

    P.S.
    Names Joseph Nickson

Anyway - two more terrible pieces from today. Cant wait for portfolio submissions to be finally over so I can actually study. Boldini quick sketch and another distorted portrait painting (I dont even know anymore, trying to force myself into these pieces to fill a fine art uni portfolio is killing me.)

Just got back from london - came back a day early, meh

Sketches on the train were fun though, I've officially become the weird person that draws you from afar on public transport. Hooray for construction methods! Now to work on line confidence/weight and accuracy.

Also - Finished Harold speeds oil painting book while in london, felt it was right to slowly pick through it and try his examples rather than blast through it and not take in much of the info. Cant wait to apply things in a larger study! Now to finish the drawing book.

Oh my, going by trains has become now too dangerous! There's a chance we may be drawn by you, without noticing this fact
Lovely sketches, I can't take my eyes off from your awesome strokes.

    Woah its late again.

Attempting to implement things learnt from harold speed, Its so god damn fun. outcomes aren't exactly good, bad colours and edges and such, but i knew what I was doing a lot more while working. Thinking about every brush stroke is starting to have some impact, tomorrow will be a full day of studies

Love the painting from the first person perspective, such a challenging task.

Slow late night master studies. Shall scan sketchbook work tomorrow -

Got distracted again and didn't pay enough attention to the brush strokes. Right figure looks terrible.

    So-

I should be packing up my stuff as im moving to hull for a month for my first ever actual art job tomorrow! But instead i started flailing around on this thing. Im leaving rendering alone for a while, I need to work on my basics.

Anyway, this job could do one of two things-
Fling me into a pit of depression due to my lack of ability
Motivate me to improve and force me to challenge myself.

I hope its the latter, anyway - I shall try to post as much as possible!

Your using 0.5 lead for the pencil rendering right? Cause your rendering is quite nice, especially on the faces!

Yeah, 0.5 2B mechanical pencil. Its fun to use, but i feel that its too harsh, attempting to go back to standard pencil and get less angular pieces.

Tying some unreferenced figure invention. There are so many holes in my knowledge, but im slowly filling them (I think.) 15 minute sketch

    Cant sleep...

Doodles without ref, trying to get used to picking correct colours for basic landscapes. Same format as before, but a lot easier.

    Hey BHCS,

Thanks for the kudos on my sketchbook. I came to see what direction you're heading in and it looks great! The painting of your living room was a cool idea! Keep it up.

As for that PM you sent me: I can't send one back until I reach a requirement of posts on the forums. So keep an eye on your inbox next week.
