    @Jephyr X
Thanks for stopping by, great to see you think i have progressed, its hard to tell from where im sitting.

Started a new oil painting at 3AM in the morning while drunk. Needless to say, there was no planning involved and the setup of the canvas/mirror has made this nothing but hell. I screwed it all up a tad, but im uploading the last photo of the piece before i destroyed it...

You got great sense of lighting man, or so it seems from many of your sketches.
I see also great attention to detail especially on your enviro work.
    Keep up man!

Nice portrait, BHCS. There is good depth to the skin tones, am really liking the 'rawer' colours you have in there. Personally, I think the image previous to the final is better cropped with less background - but that's just me.

    Good work.

    WIPs.

    WIPs everywhere.

thegrayslayer Thanks for the input, I've cropped the final painting for portfolio submission, but not to the extent of the previously posted picture. Cheers!

Nice drawing, again. The last drawing is strong - the direction of the linework works really well to show form of the model.

Thanks, been working on my shading for a whole now, finding better ways of doing things.

Tried out some more things, not happy, but posting none the less.

(yes, i know the large charcoal woman has a horribly elongated body. Polishing a turd, all that :/.)

    Woo, comments, thanks you two!

Random sketchbook pages, blurred out the writing so you dont need to kill me over how terrible it is.
Turns out mini portfolio submission date for CSM is tomorrow (today), should be OK if its postmarked for the 20th though...

Quick photoshop sketch, attempting to not rely on opacity, getting things down in one pass.

Couldn't continue, mouse kills my wrist. Side note, may be getting a replacement tablet soon

Excellent progress so far! You're handling color really well. I seem to remember your portrait being quite popular on reddit awhile back. Was that you?

Appreciating the kind words everyone, but looking for as much criticism as possible, if you dont like anything, blurt it out!

Been told to loosen up and not outline everything so drastically, trying a new approach at construction, sorry for the messiness.
This should be my last shaded piece for a while, working on construction.

    Edit:
@blindshot yeah, that was my portrait on reddit, didn't expect it to get to the frontpage

Looks great! Really love the looseness in your pencilling. I would darken the top edge of his right eye, though.

Really liking this man, your skill is definitely improving.
If you wanna do some quick gesture drawing try 30sec poses on www.posemaniacs.com you may see an improvement in the speed of your gestures, dunno, maybe you already did stuff like this etc. Just a thought n.n

    Tablet finally arrived!

Unfortunately it was an Intuos 3 A5 rather than the A4 I had ordered. Stil waiting to hear back from the seller.

Anyway - two quick unfinished sketches, been looking for interesting objects to paint. Trying out different lighting situations too, this is fun

Started sketching my garden during sunset, not realising how little time i would have for painting. 15 minutes in I gave up and started working without reference as a challenge. Blergh. Going to do some pieces from imagination, All these life studies need to be applied on something.

Also, I tried to calibrate these monitors but everything is a damn lot worse now. Getting a pantone huey pro with a friend - Paintings look great on one screen and terrible on the other. Sorry if this painting is pretty screwed up in terms of colour.

Oh god, working without reference is so damn fun. Even though it seems to come out as a hectic mess.

    Good brush 5.1

A friend just linked me to the newest version of blurs Good brush pack (5.1)
Unfortunately it was hosted on a chinese site, hard to navigate and once downloaded the whole pack was in chinese.

Taken the liberty to translate it, It will most likely be translated by the creator himself eventually, but for now Ive made this little version.

    Enjoy!

Image isn't mine - tis the cover for the packs instructions
