    A_Knight's_Art, the sketchbook.

    Hi everyone, I'm new here and it's nice to see so many great artists and to see such a great place to grow as an artist. I've always been interested in art in almost all of it's forms but I feel the motivation and the commitment I used to have to art has almost faded away, specially over the past 2 years. But now I feel like I want to take up the pencil again, now that I have some time to actually begin or to pick up where I left of. It's almost like riding a bike for the first time AGAIN! I want to improve my skills and I'll post my progress here and hope for the best. Meanwhile I'll have to post some old stuff...

    Great study work, very nicely detailed. Would be nice to see some more dynamic pose investigation, obviously the basics comes first. You haven't posted in a while, it'd be good to see how far you've come along recently.

    Thanks man, I know I haven't posted in a while and I don't really have an excuse or anything else for that matter. I've not been drawing as much I've wanted to but I think now is a good time to actually increase my studying. Dynamic pose investigation as you suggest is something I'm actually looking into at the moment and I'll post whenever I'm ready to show the progress, thanks again. Meanwhile I'll post some 3d...It's a WIP of a little cityscape.

    Some more 3d, here's another addition to the buildings. Not quite finished yet, it still needs to be UV-unwrapped and textured. And when it's finished I'll import it to the "main-scene" where the other buildings are at. It's a small little pizza place with a big and fancy sign lol...

    That last 3d building is looking really tasty. Those studies are a little flat but look ultra detailed styles. I can't help but feel like your overcomplicating things for yourself. It's cool to know all of the tendons and muscle groups and stuff, but it's better to just know how to draw an arm if you know what I'm saying? Anyways keep it up and keep that post count rising broda.

    batcustard: Thanks, I totally know what you mean, but these studies were meant to be focused on detail. But also a way for me to both be practicing rendering and anatomy if you know that I mean. I'll post some newer studies soon. Thanks for the encouragement, I'll keep the post count rising.

    Here's a little update on the last 3d building I was working on. As you can it's been textured, although it's not quite finished I'm kinda happy with how the colormap/diffusemaps turned so far. It still needs a little adjustment and so forth, let me know what you guys think. I also wanna add that it has not been rendered yet, it's a screenshot directly from Maya's viewport so it will definitely look different when rendered properly. The railing on the building and the little pizza sign does not look like that when rendered, I've done some test renderings so bare in mind or imagin that the railing is actually black with a rusty haggard style LOL Also texturing isn't really my strong side, that's something I'm working on . As far as the drawing, I have to admit I haven't really been drawing as much as I've wanted to but that's also something I'm working on. There will be more updates from me really soon.

    Hey guys, thought I'd make an update since it's been quite a long time since I posted anything. This is a small post, another 3d building done in Maya, it's not been textured yet but I'll get to that. Meanwhile I've done some studies, mainly anatomy and gesture studies plus some poses. I haven't scanned the stuff yet, but I will Anyways, let me know what you think...any crit is welcome!

    Are these cinematic models or game assets?

    If they are cinematic models then you should bevel your edges. Nothing in real life has infinitely hard edges like the ones you would find in a basic 3D cube. Even a razor's edge has a vey small bevel to it. And keep in mind that the size and softness of your bevel gives you the "feel" of the material. A tight and sharp bevel gives a sense of metal, while a broad and soft one feels more like plastic.

    r u using vray ? coz i think the render final will be even better with it i guess..

    Fingus: These are cinematic models, and yeah you're right about the edges. It's something I know and I'm not going for realism or anyhting but I think I'll apply that anyway to see the result and ultimately compare it to the model without any bevel. But I guess it doesn't matter which style I'm going for, beveling can definitely bring forth the attributes of a real material. Beveling materials was actually one of the thumb rules when I was going to school a while ago, I just didn't apply that rule LOL. Anyways Thanks for the reminder and the good example!

    Rain Walker: I'm using mental ray, I've updated the rendered scene a lot and I think it looks much better now than it did a while ago. Thanks for the tip.

    The difference is very subtle but noticeable, or at least I hope...

    Really enjoying the 3D work man, looks awesome!

    Keep em' studies up tho, the anatomy studies will help even your most cartoony of characters come to life and ground them here. So keep at it!
