    Opheliac's Sketchbook! :B

    Hi, there.

I'm a loooong time lurker who only recently mustered up the courage to start up a sketchbook, but I'm sure it's a good decision. Well, my name's Ellie, I'm 15 (16 in just over a week!) and I've loved drawing and art since I was a little kid. I also have a passion for writing.

I really love videogames, apocalyptic and post-apocalyptic imagery and indie, punk and folk music as well. When I'm older I'd love to be a concept artist, which is why I want to really work on my art and get better.

    So, here goes!

Can only say : Just enjoy ! Draw draw draw and draw. Simple but that is all there is to it. Oh and studying those art books, small and big, reading, watching scrutinizing every detail in all those amazing sci fi movies, draw some more, copy famous paintings as precisely as you possibly can, draw a little bit more and just keep going

    Nice start !

The female figures are sketches from photographs, and the other is a painting of my mum's shoe from life.

All done in Photoshop and with photo-references, except a few of the lip sketches.

    Hey!
    Nice lip studies!
Try to do more of those studies. They will help you a lot.
Try to get your lines in you pencil works more clear, but apart from that good so far!

    Keep it up dude!

The very last lip study you did was wonderful. Nice use of highlights.

The first few sketches need a bit of work, but that's not unusual for someone of your age. Couple of years down the road and you'll be better.

With the chair, the perspective is a bit off. Especially with the arm rests pertaining to the bottom edge of the seating area of the chair.

    But anyway, keep at it

Edit: Btw, since you said you were a fan of post apocalyptia and video games, I assume you already played the Fallout series. I might be telling you stuff you already know, but spend an afternoon perusing The Fallout 3 Nexus' image archive for post apocalyptic designs and stuff. That's what I did. You can do the same from Oblivion and the TESNexus.

Silwynar: Thanks very much! I will definitely do some more studies. And I'll work harder to make my pencil lines clearer!

Rabbi Satan: Thank you! I'll work harder on perspective and making my sketches more accurate. And thanks a lot for the link! I have played the Fallout games-- Fallout 3 is actually my favourite game (very excited for New Vegas), but I haven't heard of the image archive.

    Great start

I wish I had decided to focus more at your age lol

How much digital painting have you done? Because the portrait is impressive. I've only just started to get into digital painting.

    Keep posting

I should also add a caveat to the image archive - some of the images are of *ahem* "Adult" quality, and it's kind of like playing Russian Roulette (Should've added this in the beginning, but I just had a look as well just now). My suggestion would be to browse the Armour section of mods by downloads and descending, and look through each mod for interesting designs.

I'm also looking forwards to New Vegas, can't wait .

Thank you! I've been doing digital painting for about two years or so, and I've been practicing in Photoshop for about 3-4 years. So I'm pretty comfortable with the program and painting + blending digitally. If you're looking for some good digital tutorials, these may help:

    http://www.imaginefx.com/-2287754330...Workshops.html, http://www.furiae.com/index.php?view=gallery, http://navate.deviantart.com/gallery/#/d2dwqgc.

And I recommend painting from life and pictures (paying close attention to colour), understanding and being comfortable with your program, and working big as you can (!).

Rabbi Satan: Thanks, again! It already filtered out the adult content for me (I think it's because I'm not a member, perhaps), but I will start in the armour section. I'm looking forward to looking through it. (And New Vegas is gonna be awesome!)

I've been working a lot in my sketchbook on heads and faces, but I'm not going to post any of that yet. Today I did some 2-5 minute sketches and a still life of an apple.

Good to see so many studies. I notice that in your first few sketches you seem to have a good grasp of shading and form but your line quality is making the images look unfinished.
Try to practice making as few and as clean lines as possible. Its an easy way to make your images look more polished.
Great digital feature studies. Your brush work looks nice and confident. I'm excited to see more digital work from you.
    Keep it up!
