Yes, anatomy studies from a live model are a great help. I draw people on trains and in ques a lot, which also helps. It's best to draw them fast as you internalise the forms more than if you took time to study them carefully. Once you have been doing that for a few weeks it's okay to start learning the names of muscles etc but not before. Intellectualising is a really creativity killer.

    Hey bro

I'd like to add to what Andres said, do gesture drawing (loose sketches) but then also draw basic shapes over these gestures and then turn those basic shapes into form by drawing through those shapes, because at the moment your drawings are a bit flat.

Good luck with your next studies. =)

Really like the selfportrait you did, especially considering it's acrylic (I'm terrible with acrylics xD)

You got some really creative stuff going on. You seem to go from one style to the next pretty easily. I like that, but I think one thing that stands out to me is the lack of consistent values?

More seperation of the light and shadow sides of stuff I think will do alot. just some thoughts

hey man nice updates you have on here - you have some interesting ones since last time I visited! Interesting, vivid colours and very original, all aboard the imagination train!

One crit, I'd love to see some studies in pencil, they really help get your eye in and doing sketches and pencil studies will improve your paint work.

    Keep it up!

nice update qlotzan. Perhaps doing more studies of basic shapes and values would help you more with the digital painting. You'll be able to create good contrast in your work if you do more value studies

good job on the acrylic piece btw :3

    crits, tips an' such

O' hai, boomerang post. It's been pointed out but your pencil work seems stronger than your digital painting. I feel like your paintings seem to use too many soft edges, making them look blurry. The selfportrait with acrylics looks good though. Try bringing the same into your digital work. Could practice with a still life or two maybe? Photo studies can help too.

Your characters seem to be quite well proportioned. If you're ready to step up to the next level, get some anatomy books from Loomis, Bridgman or Hogarth and brush up your figure skills. Some of the books can be found as free PDF downloads in the web. Gesture drawing would also help, posemaniacs is pretty good for that.

    Cheers.

You seem very productive, that's good! Some great anatomy sketches in your last post. Make sure you pay close attention to your edges when painting, I think that is your biggest obstacle in that department.
