Red face My Scanner won't Scan!

First off i own a HP Officejet 4500 Scanner. I have been scanning since last week. But sometimes when i turn on the Scanner(Note its also a printer/faxer) and i click scan it says No Scan Option Try Again. The USB cable is connect to my laptop and Scanner but it won't work.Everytime it fails i am urged to smash the scanner. Someone want to help me before i smash it?

Silly question, but are you turning the scanner on and letting it do it's little wake up routine before opening the software? That's what I need to do, otherwise the scanner isn't found by the software.

Smack it. Might knock some sense into the little imp that runs the machine.

That being said, unplug and replug is your friend.
