Hey Thanks Dude! Gotta work on my animation, its pretty weak as it stands right now.

Got a chance to plug in an hour on the Frazetta Study....I really hate being a perfectionist, I think it drags my work down sometimes.

    Nice work over here !
I'm really enjoying your graphite based works, they are fluid and pretty to look at.

    Hi matey

Dont worry about the perfectionist side of your personality mate, trust me its paying dividends for you. the Frazetta thing is brilliant, I rather think that frank himself would be impressed, though he would ask why you are not painting one from your own head. According to what I've read he was big on encouraging folks to do their own thing.

anyway like the book mate keep it coming I like your work, and thanks for posting.

I have seen now some pages of your sketchbook and I need to say it is cool! I like especially your characterdesigns. You have a really strong style in them and they're full of expression.
And I'm jealous of your pencil drawings! The way you do shadows and lines is just so wonderful. Full of dynamic
But I kind of miss this things a bit in the digital paintings. Maybe it's the colour choice, but I can not feel so much life there as in the pencil drawing. But that happens to many people. Seems like simple things can catch life better sometimes

Willy - Thanks man! Im guessing you're talking about my life drawings! They're not graphite, its all in black conté.

Lightship - Thanks a ton for the encouragement! My peer mentor, San (who will no doubt soon be mentioned with the Greats in animation design) suggested I try doing the Frazetta study based on my work from the Heron painting...he noted how Frazetta used soft and hard edges to fade the figures into the environment and then separate the significant parts... so I did the pencil one day and I figured Id understand it all better if I painted it, and I really do. I admit its almost time to move on. Thanks for stopping by once more!

Valyavande - THanks for the compliments on what Im guessing are my figure drawings, again they're done with Conté on newsprint. I agree that some of my paintings lose some of the spark of life, its definitely something Im working on. I find that the paintings in which I do on the spot turn out better than the ones I plan.... Anyway thanks for stopping by!

    Hi matey

Have you noticed the form and abstraction thing going on in frazetta work too, loads of detail where the focus is and it tails off where you dont really need it, you just get basic shapes or hints.

Thats one the many things I always get wrong I tend to litter the place with detail and it ends up cluttered and wrong.

Anyway the reason I popped by was to suggest another fraxetta one for you to have a go at, namely "The Egyptian Queen".
Its a great one because as you study it you realise that the use of light in it is amazing, he uses it to re-enforce the 3D effect with it. I reckon you could pull it off mate, go on challenge yourself some more.......please

all the best to you mate and i love the sketchbook.

Lightship tthanks for dropping by again man! The revisits are so much appreciated! The Egyptian Queen was def one of the ones I was looking at doing in the first place, such a master piece. Right now I'm starting to storyboard a film and I have a childrens book and a video game on the way so another Frazetta study isnt in the immediate future but I will keep what you said in mind, so thanks!

Knut- I actually have been doing TONS of enviro's but unfortunately im under an NDA so I cant post any....but once my contract ends ill get back to doing my own...thanks for dropping by again dude!

5 min face study from earlier this summer

and this is my first attempt at a screen cap study. Im trying to get better at identifying the correct colors when observing...still not there, I had to color pick a bit in the dark areas after the first pass. Im also trying to minimize strokes and become more efficient.

Hi there! I like the simple compositions. And didn't they use your application portfolio as example on their blog?

Teaser from a painting Im working on....cant really show the whole thing, but you can get an idea of the color scheme and location....sort of.

    edit**

xinranlui - thanks, I find that simple is better....when you add too many things the message is easily lost...someday I might get into some crazy comps but for now while I learn im just taking it easy and ya! Andrew Murray used my portfolio as an example of the Sheridan Blog, kinda cool, its basically where it all began!

Nicky - THanks dude!! I worked very simple with a limited amount of brushes in photoshop then used a canvas texture on in with a few other effects to make it look as much like the original as I could.
