Me and some friends somehow wandered off into backalleys at night in Beijing, and we found this shady restaurant. At the entrance I saw cats in cages and some big half-dead seaturtles.

Someone wanted to eat the seaturtle, but since none knew chinese, we ordered the most expencive meals in hope of getting the seaturtle. We all ordered something we didnt know what was. We drank some snakeblood in sake. Not very delicious. Yes, we got the seaturtle, but one dish took ages before it finally turned up. And it was something I would not normally consider a meal.

They carried in a monkey, and a weirdlooking table. The monkey was secured with its head screwed shut between two pieces of wood, so that the only thing we saw was the top of its skull. Then they gave us hammers... We just stared at the skull and the hammers. The chinese dude took one of the hammers and slammed the monkey on the head with it demonstrantly, as if we didnt comprehend that this was the purpose of the hammers allready. Monkey went IIIIIK!

    We left.

Ive later heard that this was some kind of competition where the first one to crack the skull got to eat first.

So what DID I eat? Snake. Tastes a little like bacon.

The chef was more than happy to gut it in front of us. (The snake).

Oh, if only all chefs were like that...

Well, only strange for America, but I did eat snails in Greece once. It didn't taste all that good, but I think that was because of the onion sauce and not because of the snail itself. The meat was a bit rubbery, but sort of bland in itself. I don't know, maybe it was just me, but I didn't see any reason to keep eating it, and I wouldn't really eat it again.

Also eaten shark. That was very very yummy. Fried shark is tasty.

well, I like to eat squids. Not very unusual I think, but my friends don't understand it.

there are some really strange foods here in northern germany -

for example, in the winter-season, there's a lot of "kale" - you know, some sort of cabbage - and it's served with sugar.

no joke, I love kale with sugar.

and, not really strange but -
I sometimes eat two slices of toast coated with ketchup and mayonnaise...

edit: and the thing about that monkey ist just babaric...

Never gonna eat anything like that... i'm very picky with what i eat. I drink all kinds of alcohol though Sometimes i get sooo wasted... and then sometimes when i'm really wasted, i do stupid stuff.

Ok, i confess. The #1 stupid thing i ever did while drunk was to snort salt. Just a little, mind you... Man that was so stupid.

ive snorted peper, and watched friends of mine have a dog food eating competition. And yes we were REALLY drunk. It was the wet meaty kind, threw up after second bite. It looked like jackass. I will never ever go near dogfood again. I didnt even have any.

Durian (stinkiest thing you'll ever smell).
Durians are actually quite common here, most people like it but I know some people cant stand the smell. So its strictly off limit on the train. It actually one of my favourite especially the good grades durians.

    Frog legs taste nice.

Snails are very common here. Theyre done with tomato. I dont like them at all but many, many people love them.
Where i live, one day a year theres a big party where a lot of them are cooked for people to give them for free.
I remember going to catch them to cook at home some time ago.

The strangest? maybe frog legs, but theyre very common here too.

In Hong Kong I drank a small glass of King Cobra's Blood and Thai Whiskey.

In the Phillipines I had Baloot (eggs with legs) NASTY, Dog meat NASTY part deux and NO I didn't know what it was before or I wouldn't have eaten it. But the monkey meat was very good.

Former boss and a friend of mine went out to get a bite to eat, and he took us to a Vietnamese restaurant, and of course not thinking asked what was good on the menu and chose a soup dish. Got half way through it and to what i THOUGHT was noodles turned out to be cow stomach, and after pausing for like 10 minutes finished the huge bowl.:barf:

Probably some kind of root I found by the river in Malaysia. I use to wander all over the place, trying thats even though I didn't know what they were. Good thing I didn't run into any poison ivy or hemlock.

Cow brain... heh... and in a taco and all, why would somebody make a taco of cow brain?

Don't know all the shit I was fooled into eating when I was in Hong Kong. My girlfriend is from there so we ate all kinds of strange chinese food all the time there. I know that she ate cock testicles though.
I tried to stay away from the things that smelled the funniest.

Basashi - Raw horsemeat from Kumamoto in Japan. It's kinda the same idea as sushi or rather sashimi (raw fish) but with horsemeat instead. It was preatty good.

Uni - Sea urchin, god that was disgusting! The consistence of eating that thing is like a big piece of half coagulated snot on rice (if snot coagulates, maybe it just hardens? I dunno).

Oh come on you sissies, intestine isn't that bad. Hell, if you eat homemade sausage the outer casing is intestine. so whatever. Besides, If you like liver (YUM, fried with brandy! So damn good!) then intestine stomach or anything like that shouldn't really gross you out.

stomach is also eaten in germany.

the favorite food of our former chancellor Helmut Kohl was pig stomach - "Saumagen"

even more disgusting is "Pansen" which is actually a part of the bowel.
