How much should I pay for work? (Yes N00b)

Alright, I am new to this site I just found it. I may need work done for the future, but I don't know how to pay someone or what to charge. Say I'm doing something comic book based, how do the artist charge? per page? Or say you just want "X" amount of pictures, should I ask the artist how much they charge?

Should I state that I am not trying sell anything? and that it's just for an self- project?

    Thanks.

Not sure about the prices, but you should definitely state about not trying to sell anything, it's important for an artist to know what it is they're working on as their work, when it goes public, represents themselves (sort of like, artist becomes well known, someone says "hey have you heard of ****?" ... "oh yeah! that guy that did the picture of the donkey punching a christian, is he atheist?"

.... or something like that. Uh, short answer yes, tell them it's for a self-project.

Comics are usually paid on a page rate (different rate for the cover).

While you can offer anything you like, any offer under $60 a page will probably net you 'art' that's unviewable.

gimme your credit card number and the pin number and I'll let you know how much you'll pay!

If it's a comic book, then you'll need to pay a page rate. Nobody is going to finish a comic book on an empty stomach. Maybe give them partial ownership too.

Back in uni i met a group of comic book artists who said I could join them, however I would not be paid and only paid a small amount if any books were sold. I told him where to shove his offer

I'm glad you are a person who expects to pay for the service, even if you are not expecting it to go commercial. I respect that.
