Twig's Sketchbook - Looking for critiques and advice!

    Hello CA!

I've been really trying to improve my work over the past few months and been getting a little overwhelmed lately. It just seems that a have so much more to learn and no time to lose. I would really appreciate ANY critiques and advice and will try to post as often as possible.

Good work. My one suggestion would be to maybe add a little more detail in the foreground of your landscapes to help add to the sense of depth.

Overall good, though. Hope to see more.

Thanks for the advice PeregrinTerk. I am really trying to working in lots of detail on the last two. I realized how bad I need to do some anatomy studies especially hands! Really hoping to do some master studies and get some of pencils scanned and upload. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Thanks for dropping by my SB, ~Twig!

I adore your CHOW for the day/night series - most original one out of the whole bunch. Sweet!

Really have a style. I like how you are starting to manage big masses of colours on the environmental designs. Is there any specific studies you are doing for environments? Also, i see some potential on the cartoonish style judging by your avatar's drawing. Very interesting the concept of the "Day Night" CHOW. How did you think of that? Was there any research which helped you to make the final decision? The last grayscale has some interesting anatomy things here and there, like the hands and chest, kind of reminds me some robotic game designs. As an advice, i think some of the first environment designs and characters on the 4# are a bit blurry. Try to have a more sharp edges. Also, i think they lack a bit of contrast as for the lighting. Don;t afraid to play with the highlights and at the same time nnot overdo it. Keep up man and take care. Oh, and update!

So buuusssy.............I recently got back from the Ottawa International Animation Festival in Canada. I drank lots of beer and watched animations all day, it was pretty fun. Not much of an update, my tablet was broken for a week or so its fixed now. Just trying to get back into the swing of things. Must draw more!!!!

@Knut Great to see someone interesting in my work and sorry it took me so long to respond. For the Night and Day concept I really want them to be the same entity so I brainstormed from there and bounced some ideas off friends. The idea for the hair seemed to just fit perfectly so I ran with it. Here a different drawing i was messing around with and ultimately ended up scrapping.

Hey man the statue head stydy is AWESOME! I find the bored class sketches also very unique and creative. In fact, i find the mix of styles (quick childish faces and rough lines with the rest of the body) reaally interesting. I know that they may not have much thought on them, i mean you were bored in class , but maybe you have to get bored more often! You confuse me a bit cause some of your drawings are really great, also pro and others are a bit rough with blurry edges etc. Try to be more accurate on all of your creations as a common line. It doesn't matter what style it is. Keep up man, you have huge potentials, also thanks for stopping by at my sb. Oh and i forgot how i love the little rocks' lighting on the last enviro. Other than that, i think that the rest of the elements are a bit not well combined: etc the trees area is a bit of a stranger to the rocks zone due to the rendering. I see this also on the ground, the 1st zone and the 2nd one with the ladder.

If you have any link of thiw animation fest send smthing! Take care.

    due for an update.

@Knut Check out David O'reilly or Don Hertzfeldt's animations. They each had a piece in the festival and both were freaking great.
