Things you want to see/never want to see in your lifetime?

So yeah, i was kinda bored and figured this might provoke some interesting discussion, I'm just curious what sorts of things people want to see and/or dont ever want to see in their lifetime.

My thing that i'd like to see has always been flying cars. Not some crappy misc. gadget by some sweedish inventor, i mean widespread, mainstream flying car usage, cleverly designed, etc. I may add to this list in another post in this thread but for me, flying cars.

Not like to see... hmm... kind of a negative subject but probably nuclear warfare or something like a plague/superflu. The plague one is a bit silly since we havent had a great plague in some time, but when i think about things that would suck, that ranks high on my list. Also the superflu thing is there because after reading The Stand by Stephen King, theres likely an undeniable amount of suck involved in something like that.

Anyone else have some stuff they want to see in their lifetime? Any of those things been fulfilled? or hope to never see?

Off the top of my head. Most of these are probably both want to see and don't, depending on situation.

    Solar eclipse
    Hurricane
    Tornado
    Tidal Wave
    An alien
    A dinosaur
    Ball lightning
    Nuclear explosion
    Public space travel

That's kind of what I was thinking... imagine adding another dimension's worth of accidents for people to get into. Plus the fact you'd be traveling at much greater speeds.

I want to live long enough to see intelligent life discovered on earth.

I do NOT want to sit at a counter eating and look up to see my proctologist sitting opposite me eating a cheeseburger and fries...

I want to see Rush Limbaugh, Sarah Palin and Glen Beck coated in aluminum circling the earth at 1,200 miles as microwave reflectors for PBS and the NEA Grant Channel.

I do NOT want to find three anatomically correct blow-up dolls of Woody Allen under my bed when I sober up.

I want to see US politics made an Olympic Sport.

I do NOT want to be forced into the search party after someone asks, "Have you found Jesus yet?"

I want pumpkins to taste like chocolate chip cookies.

I do NOT want the 300-pound Samoan guy named "Little Tease in Pink" from Facebook to show up on my doorstep.

No position or belief, whether religious, political or social, is valid if one has to lie to support it.--Alj Mary

Breakthroughs in positive human genetic engineering that could help to increase healthy life span and eliminate major diseases etc. or something cool like that. And generally being alive long enough to see where science progresses and to learn more about life and the universe.

There's nothing silly about a major flu considering the number who died from flu last year (hell, every year). It's all a question of numbers, and with so many humans all over the world, coming into contact with so many bugs and them mutating, and then the people flying all around the world... It's only a matter of time. The latest fear is some resistant bacteria originating from India that might travel around. We'll see what happens this fall/winter... I just hope my son doesn't get seriously ill again. Larengitis and rotovirus kept him in the hospital almost all December...

Let's see, let's start positive. What I want to see:

    1. Some more Tarantino films. It'd be great if he could get some Mina Mazzini songs in.
    2. Some more Coen brothers films
    3. Some more Charlie Kaufman films
    4. The world switch to a sustainable system of gathering resources, mostly switching to solar energy.
    5. My children grow up healthy and happy

Note, I'm starting small, and working my way up

    6. My wife happy with me after many years of marriage
    7. A new education movement sweeping across America, with actual results to show
    8. An Art education movement sweeping across the world, fueling a renewed interest and respect for the arts.
    9. A democratic China, through peaceable means.
    10. An ethical politico in Russia to stomp out corruption, bolster the courts, and put it on the way to a real democracy.
    11. Getting the fat cats out of politics in America, and elsewhere.
    12. Actually being proud of myself as an artist...
    13. More, new good music/bands. Probably the next new album by the Decemberists.

Hee! I was watching Chinese films with decapitations and zombies with tongues down to their toes when I was 8 with my Mum. Don't think I've turned out that violent.

I want to see a world where people are happy to disagree with other people.
And I want to see a world where we can celebrate and enjoy the differences of culture, thinking and colour. Where everyone is interesting and has a view that people can empathise with. Where disliking a person isn't seen as a hate crime. A world where we consider other people's feeling first before posting. And a world where we understand when people fall short of being ideal.

    Things I want to see:

    1. Earth making contact with intelligent life in space (For better or worse, it'd still be a hell for a thing)
    2. Colonization on another planet
    3. A space elevator/taxi/tourist trap of your choice here. 'Cause I'd totally ride it.
    4. Cure for cancer
    5. Cure for dementia (hopefully before I'm at the age where it's applicable)
    6. VR MMO gaming where you, personally, enter the game as a character.
    7. A real gold bar
    8. World peace under my benevolent tyranny leadership

    Don't want to see:

    1. The deaths of my favorite actors/musicians/authors.
    2. Zombie apocalypse
    3. a government-mandated end of anonymity on the internet
    4. The day Google finally joins the dark side
    5. The horrifying tax hike to accommodate the medical needs of America's swelling obese population.
    6. Nuclear war

    That's all I've got.

    Space elevator, please!

Michio Kaku on the consequences of a space elevator -

"Our horizons often determine our understanding of just who we are. For most of human history, for example, our horizons were determined by our tribe, which numbered just a few hundred individuals. But gradually it expanded to include large city states, large nation states and industrial empires. Well, in the future, when access to outer space is for everyone, not just for the rich, then our horizons will expand to include the entire planet and we'll move away from seeing ourselves divided by religion, ethnicity or nationality. When we look down from outer space at the planet Earth not only will we realize how precious life is, but the fact that we belong in a truly planetary civilization. At that point our consciousness, our horizons, will be truly planetary."

And a bunch of other fun stuff, but I think a space elevator is the one most likely to occur in my lifetime.

Space travel, absulutely. I mean, sure it's going to start happening in the next twenty or so years so it's possible I could go, but there would be no way I would have the money to do so.

I would also enjoy seeing a nuclear explosion. Obviously not on grounds where there are people being killed, but I mean a test or something where you can see the explosion then you feel the shockwave later on. That would be very cool.

I don't want to see my parents die, but that is inevitable.

I want to see myself in a relationship one day.

I want to see myself in a successful band some day.

I don't want to see Mumford & Sons be overrun by hipsters.

I want to see/hear the future development of music including all of the yet to be created subgenres and underground movements.

    I second the Tarantino statement.

I want to see my wallet be full some day.

I want to see Ulver some day!

I don't want any of my favorite bands to break up.

I want to see reunions of any of my favorite bands that have broken up (Arcturus, Isis, etc...)

I don't want to see any(more) of my favorite musicians and artists die.

I want to see some new and inspiring films. I haven't seen a great new film in a very, very long time.

great thread! some nice answers here.

    WANT to see:

    1. Creative success.

    2. Romantic success.

    3. A land where I'd love to live. As of now I've always been discontent and nowhere feels like "home".

    4. More amazing movies like Pan's Labyrinth.

Play your cards right Randis, maybe your model gf can get Miss Spain and Miss Italy to come visit on vacation... or you might lose everything.

Hmmm. maybe we should just be content with some things.

    Want to see:

    1) I want to become a better artist.
    2) I want to be in a romantic relationship one day.
    3) I want to be able to space-travel.
    4) I want to become a linguist.
    5) I want to see world peace. (why is this so hard...even one tiny step?)
    6) I want to be able to scuba-dive in the ocean. (don't really have good lung capacity, but I've been told the more you do it the more your lungs expand).
    7) I want to see Terra-forming on another planet.
    8. I want to see cloning done. (kinda swinging both ways of 'want' and 'not want' but wouldn't mind seeing it at least once or twice).
    9) Diploma Mill schools (AI chain especially) get what they deserve (and not in a good way).

    Don't want to see:

    1) My parents pass away (inevitable of course).
    2) Nuclear Holocaust
    3) Stupid/Idiotic people running the country I happen to inhabit (I can see that that wish is already down the drain).
    4) Friends getting angry every time a good-hearted person tries their hardest to help/guide them; no intention of being mean. Only to be told that they are 'lecturing them' (kind of personal but, needed to be said to get it off my chest).
    5) Anymore animals being given away to shelters because of irresponsible people (a logical excuse will be ok though).
    6) Zombie Apocalypse
    7) Anymore death penalty (uncivilized and barbaric in my opinion).

    I could imagine cars flying.
Air traffic control watch out for a flying car. Hey, car if you can hear me respond, you have just crossed into government air space and will be shot down.

I don't know much I like to see, because I can always draw it, but I would like to see a dream come true.

    What I don't want to see;

I don't want to see the end of the world. Something we wait for and can't to anything about or suffer from until we die. If it is going to happen it better be quick.

I would not want to be taken by some aliens that want to cut us up, there are enough people like that, and some just might sell our body parts to pay for the hospital bill. A hospital gave me a paper to sign that gives them the freedom to do anything and they are not held responsible. I had to walk out, because I would not sign it.

I have my own opinions of what is disgusting and I would not want to see any of that.

There are movies I wished I didn't see, but I can't complain, because I wouldn't know that until I saw them. I seen a lot of things like that, and what I really don't like that I have seen was people taking pictures like it was a thrill you watch I guy suffer when he is cut in half, or drag him around, and laugh.

I want to see more interest in foreign media that ISN'T from Japan. At least enough to get the stuff translated and sent over to the states with as much ease. Yes, I'm talking about comics. Clearly I have no problem with Japanese comics, but there's a whole world out there.

I'd like to see myself in my own house. One day...IT'LL HAPPEN! >_<

I'd like to see the end of Student Loan for me and others, and in the future replaced by a goverment services that pays students to learn. I mean...everywhere.

I'd like to see DeviantArt not be about...nevermind.
