Day 3 of my sketchbook...I'm really trying to make changes in the way that I draw. I think it is helping out a lot!!
The second piece was referenced from a book called "Japanese Fashion" By Ming-Ju Sun. I bought it at the thrift store for like .99 5 years ago! It has been a smart purchase and a great tool for references! Totally happy I snagged it when I did

pretty good start, keep practicing! do some figure studies, you have a pretty good understanding of proportions for a starter. don't do studies from your brain until you've really grasped the reality, it can lead to some bad habits. keep it up!

Thanks so much! I try and draw poses I see in some magazines I get. Recently I have really been trying to practice the bend in knees and elbows. I know mine aren't very good so I have been trying to work on that a lot.

Heh, I remember you from DeviantArt.

So yes, figure studies would do wonders here. You already seem to have an understanding of proportions and basic anatomy, so practicing that skill and doing figure studies would really push you forward and give your work even more personality.

I just started reading Andrew Loomis's books, which are really insightful when it comes to figure drawings. His books are only available online, but so far they're really helpful to me.

    Anyway, keep it up!

    Hey.
Nice to see you going strong with sketching.

Although I must say that i agree with lot of people above. You must start doing figure drawing.

Even if your style or goal might not be to learn the real figure, it still matters. Like animators, practice real life figure drawing even when they animate cartoon characters, because through figure drawing, they understand the way the forms are put together, how they bend, twist, weigh, pinch, stretch. So through figure drawing, you use that knowledge to give even more life to the characters you draw.

I can see you already have such good line quality that i am still struggling to get Keep doing studies, it will benifit you in the long run

Andrew Loomis is the way to go.

Thanks very much for the kind words I am trying to work at different poses and such. My characters are pretty static right now because I am learning the basics. I plan on drawing some more animated characters as time goes on. Practice, Practice, practice.....and more practice haha!!!!

I see that you're getting somewhere with what you have so far, but I also think that some perspective studies are in order.

I agree! Honestly, I am afraid to start on perspective so early in my recent development, but I agree with you.

It looks like you should start to work on toning and shading now. Also, try different female torso shapes. It seems that the pear shape is predominant in your female figures. So go for the proportionate hourglass, and also the apple shape, and also the "I" shape where they have no defined curves. Start working on real life faces too, as they can help develop a variety of facial features to use.

And as much as I hate to associate myself with dA now, I found you through a forum post under your signature. Hahah
