This is what happens when "concept" overrides craft in art. Evidently people didn't get the memo about having both. I have grown slightly bitter by the amount of conceptual crap that comes out with an utter lack of attention to craft.
Conceptual performance art is just another nail in that coffin.

August 7th, 2010 #9That was hilarious, it's was just so stereotypical, even the audience and their response are like every art cliche rolled in one.
It's also painfully familiar because I've seen very similar things in my own art school experiences.
I don't think conceptual performance art is inherently bad though, there's a real charm to it when done well, but of course it's usually just an excuse for
people to be all ''art-ey''.

August 7th, 2010 #20Oh well, to each his own, but it irritates me that much of this crap is funded by taxpayers' money...
Makes me kind of relieved to be living here in Dark Africa, where we have few of these rich pricks, and our tax money is stolen by corrupt government officials for themselves instead of the university's "art" department. At least we get a few shiny new cars in the street this way, and the only people who piss in public are those too poor to afford ablution facilities... ;-)

What the fuck did I just watch?
Edit: The tags* explain something about the masturbation/pissing on the floor, it's squirting.

I think before dismissing it as "not art" we first have to establish a solid definition of art, and God knows we don't want another one of those discussions. But I think we can all agree that it's terrible nonetheless.
August 7th, 2010 #22Yeah, this looks like a pretty expensive production :eyeroll:
It was pretty lame and cliched and not terribly well thought through, but there's way more boring and/or shocking performance art out there. You have to at least say that the girl has guts.
What I don't get is all the aggression in this thread. Grenades? Napalm? Really? Because of their clothing and taste in art? Just slightly excessive response don't you think? I'd rather hang out with pretentious art students than someone that judgmental of superficial appearance.

August 7th, 2010 #25You're right, there should be more.
No, it's because they're retarded. And napalm fixes this.Grenades? Napalm? Really? Because of their clothing and taste in art?I had to scratch 20 more excessive responses before I got to an extremely mild one. See? I'm a caring person.Just slightly excessive response don't you think?I don't judge how they superficially look, I judge what they are and represent. The rise of selected retardation in official institutions that are not mental facilities.I'd rather hang out with pretentious art students than someone that judgmental of superficial appearance.
Cheers.

August 7th, 2010 #29Just another case of herp-derping attentionwhores who figured out doing outrageous things to annoy the hell out of conservative people is the best way to get it. I think this is where they usually say "oh lol you reacted so our art is justified" XD
