Doh!! Did this this morning and put it in the February thread. Tried to a portrait straight in P-Shop with no reference. Turned out... interesting, I think. Doesn't look much like me, but maybe it's a deeper look into my inner psyche, or something...

I have been busy with hw lately and it looks like it might stay that way, so that is my excuse for unfinished, not so good sp's... but none the less i will keep at it...

these are about 20 minutes each and the first one is in my sketch_book
    MARCH self portraits!!! already!

Davi - you are intense!! posting so many of these wow very nice work

    Roxell - cool stlye

Kanimator - not bad at all when you mean no reference that was straight from memory?

jook - could expect anything less from you cool stuff! you can't know what you what you can do until you go to far.

bhuddistmonk - much better you should now try to see form and shapes of your face. try using one light source on from a side or above direction. and remember that th eraser is not your enemy it is your friend, that is just as useful as your pencil

killing... yeah man.. watercolors are tough.. I like the two before this one a lot better. Still gives off some cool textures though...

Blackhawk... yeah man, I am really feeling this one...

Jens... That bottom one has a nice caricature feel to it.

nil... glad to see your face here. you may want to do a bunch of studies just focusing on the shape of your head.. get a feel for constructing the head, not outlining it when drawing. nice amount of details though.

davi... WOA! total bombardment of SP's. That last one makes you look a little chunky . I really like the one just before the most recent one.

king... cool little sketch, has a classical feel to it.. looks like it was done from a photo? still cool though, I just keep hearing how much more you learn from drawing from real life or mirrors, though I dont see why some pieces cant just be done for fun...

J.Mac... THat first sketch is pretty cool. I like the bottom one with your hand grabbing your face too. I have been meaning to try one of those, but have been too afraid to do so.. I am a pussy... perhaps tommorrow nights..

Roxell... Kurt Cobain? haha... only kidding.. I love the inkage there..

Kanimator... THat is a cool little exorcise. I have done that before and it was surprisingly easier than I thought (mabey because I have done like a hundred of these...) though it wasnt up to par as the ones with a mirror or anything liek that.. Yours turned out really nice and it looks very similar to most of your other ones. the main thing is the structure of the jaw and mouth seem pretty jacked... good show none the less.

jook... your last one was retarded... are you retarded? i think yes...

O.M.G...so tired, so lazy and SO BEHIND. I never did catch up my comments last month. You can tell how tired I am -- this took less than twenty minutes fiddling around with watercolors and chalk in painter. *just wants to sleep* But I've falllen behind so much...just further proof how things can murder you if you don't stay on them.

jook :: So much fun to PLAY! XD The one where you got "carried away" looks so alien.
davi :: I really enjoy your style -- they're all fabuous SPs. My favorite ones so far are the latest b/w and the muddy colored one with the chunky strokes.
nil :: Very angular SPs -- a little more of that makes for a fun shading technique. Maybe try to vary the length of your strokes?
bhuddistmonk :: Simple and clean, looks like it's off to a good start for an outline, would love to see some finished work
Kanimator :: You make the color blending look so effortless. I am jealous.
Roxell :: I dig the style -- what did you use to do that?
J.Mac :: Once again, you are the master of your eyes. The depth you get in the planal values of your face are wonderful.
king :: Looks like a fun and fearless sketch. I like the face in the bottom left.
Jens :: Your eyes and mouth in your last one look partlcularly good, pretty.
Blackhawk and killing.people :: Stunning. You guys are the masters.

    MARCH self portraits!!! already!

jook: Don´t you love the feeling of being carried away viva las computer PS: My mind is more flawed than yours :hmm: tss retard
davi: liked the lightsource coming from the back as well creates a "nice" feeling to the sp:s
Nil: yep hope you get even more busier
bhuddistmonk: love to see the finished version
    kanimator: from memory thats great
roxell: do you scan in black&white mode or greyscale?
    J.mac: 20 min sketches I liked them
jens: In your last one it seems like you chopped of a little bit of the top of your head, prob. wrong but check it out and tell me.
Blackhawk: I´m a sucker for the black and red combo, liked the way you renedered your face
    killing.people: like your sp
asbestoshazard: Thought you looked sick in your last sp then I read the text so i guess you nailed the feeling, when I´m really tired I look sick
    King: loose style like it

Mindflaw - cool i like your style and the way you do your sp's. i like the platters, to bad you sp's are kind of flat. unless that is what you are intending to do.... good work!

asbestoshazard - Thanks sleepy sleepy that is what i would say by the looks of you sp. you caught the mood nicely, gets some rest and post more!

Jens - i have the magical morphing face sometimes too! shite happens you know, the out side of the face drives me crazy as well. good style though me like

jook - thanks man cool pose doing that is hard to get to look right, and yous eem to do a pretty good job of handleing it

killing - nice textures wow i like how that it looks. so interesting! fun to look at

BH - ah colours i can't wait until you finish one it will be intense that is all i have to say!

nil - good start keep at it

king - i really like the looseness in that is a very good feature you have going there

davi - you are a machine

Kanimator - cool, i should try somehting like as well

    -Jesse

p.s. - just noticed that i always get the bridge of my nose wrong...

    my rendering sucks. more contrast?

jook: thanks. im not entirely sure what you mean about not outlining. i think i kinda get what youre saying...stupid brain. draw the planes right?

asbestoshazard: thanks. the mouth on that last one looks to be on a slightly different angle to the rest of the face. ha! im terrible with that myself. :p

J.Mac: i plan to. your SPs have changed so much...

    mindflaw: busy busy

cire600: i find that strangely obscene and deeply disturbing. nice one!

i dont know what to say to you all apart from keep it up!

I tried out the watercolors in painter for serious this time... coupled with the ink tools in there... very neat stuff...

    MARCH self portraits!!! already!

nil... yeah man... draw the planes. basically if you were to trace over a 2d picture, you would be outlining the shapes. I am saying think of the object you are drawing as a 3d object and construct it thinking about depth and stuff... I wish I knew of a better way to describe it. And yees, I think more contrast would help that one... keep at it man...

jens... that one is so nice and clean. it looks great man.. ever use color for these SP's?

cire600... that is fantastic. love the colors... and tentacles make better "eyes" that balls do anyways...

bhuddistmonk... glad to see you did put some nice time into this one. it shows... the eyes are a bit off symetry though.. and you look a little ass-kicked

Blackhawk... cool man.. no really, it looks like you are cold in there.. funny how it looks like you have a red nose with no color.. things like that stand out as skillful to me.. unless it was an accident in which case you suck I only kid... looks good.

king... interesting just like your last..

J.Mac... thanks for the compliment.. I feel like I really am not handling it though.. I just fake my skill with time and guessing lucky... I dont know its hard to explain.. I like the way you draw your nose and eye area...

mindflaw.. your best one so far. looking good. watch that you never let one eye be at a different height agian.. it hurts my face to see that. I really like the way you handled the hair on top of your noggin. maybe think about doing some studies of your individual features seperatly.. esp. the mouth and eyes.

asbestoshazard... looking great even though it shows you look as tired as you say. the white highlights add a lot...

J.Mac:thanks for the comments nope I´ll have to work on that. I have trouble breaking my face down into planes I guess and controling the splatter.
bhuddistmonk: You got the hair real good
    cire600: great sp
nil: try using a softer pencil when you do the darker parts
Jook: thanks for the comments and yes the eyes I´m going to start using "helplines" and yes I will do studies thanks for the advice. About your latest sp I think it´s to much going on in the backgound... I like those round "stains" though, keep up experimenting
Jens: as jook said it´s clean... I myself always get it smudged by accident when using pencil... any good advice except keep your hand off the paper?

Well now I must run to the train going away for couple of days. I´ll be back

slow start for me this month, but here is number 1..

I dont like it much, i think i should avoid the airbrush, it seems like a good idea but often flattens and distorts things, when i use it anyway...

eh i don't know... my hair was crazy when i woke up this morning. this does and doesn't look like me... i have no idea what i did wrong?!

    MARCH self portraits!!! already!

Ni* - i think you should try other tools and play with brushes don't just stick with one tool.

mindflaw - just practice you will get it aslong as you want it. have fun on your trip and bring back some good sp's!

jook - that is a cool sp. it looks like your eyes and brow line are off in there placement to the rest of your face

nil - interesting composition your lips seem to be miss placed slightly unless you are making a face. i hope my sp's are changing for the better :p keep them coming!

jens - looks good! i like the lines you use, your lips seem to be alittle small.

circe600 - intense man! tha is different i must say i like everything about it

bhuddistmonk - that looks good, i like that you actuall spent time on this piece it shows. it seems that y ou have elongated your face a bit but the width seems to be fins. try measuring more with your proportions. just in the begining so you know you are heading on the right path. good work i think you should do more like this one.

BH - cool work but "imo" i think this doesn't really look like you to much...it might be the hat...

king - thanks man! cool one is it ink and watercolours?

    -Jesse

p.s i think it actually might be the lips that are really throwing this one off... not sure though

    voila! another tool used :-p

oils this time, i prefer this one but the far side of the face stumped me again.

jmac- just saw your post before i uploaded this image, the square chalk is a bit of a comfort tool for me in painter.
