Question Laptop help plz! looking for labtop for 3d modeling/photoshop

    Hey guys
Iv currently hit the limits of my computer buying knowledge when it comes to picking out a laptop. im currently helping a friend try to pick out a laptop for her to use at school for 3d modeling (maya,3d studiomax, ect. ect.) and photoshop, now the school wants her to buy a laptop through them to use

Dell Precision m6400, 2.4ghz intel core 2 due, 160gb SATA hard drive,
    2 X1 GB DDR3 RAM, nvidia quadro FX 2700M,
17' Non gloss screen, Dell gold warranty

and the school wants to charge her $2,100 for it, i have a general knowledge about this stuff but even i know that that is a crappy deal it doesn't even come with the programs she needs on it, its just the computer, so my question is does anybody have any idea what laptop would be good for this purpose on a $700-1,500 budget that is at least as powerful as the one listed above if not better

some laptops i saw that might work are ASUS N61JQ-X1, lenovo IdeaPad Y560
the only problem is my knowledge of this stuff isn't good enough to make any final decisions

so any advice you guys have or suggestions of laptops that meet or beat the one listed above would be most appreciated
    THANKS!

Total overkill, for that money you could get an i7 laptop, Intuos A4 and still have leftover money to buy software.
