    HP Lovecraft Bestiary

Hello, I started doing these as a personal project after I started reading a collection of HP Lovecraft short stories.
As is typical of personal projects it's been pushed to the sideline and the momentum as faded somewhat, so I thought if I put them online, it would give me the incentive to carry on with them.

    Here's the main man

This One is from the Dunwich Horror

I have a few more I need to fiinsh off too.

These are excellent, especially Wilbur. Hideous...so, spot on! You can really see the written descriptions present in the image.

Thankyou very much for your comments.
I am trying to be as faithful to the descriptions as possible with these and not reinterpret them to be more contemporary.
    Thanks again for looking.

Just finished this one. This is a creature from 'Dreamquest to Unknown Kadath' ( I think that's the name )

Thank god I have got this one out of the way.
Definately the oddest looking one, and most comical I think.

This appeared in 'The Shadow Out of Time' . Just read the description and realised I've got the colour scheme all wrong, hey ho....

Ne'er have I seen the Great Race of Yith rendered so perfectly - colour scheme be damned. Chances are the colours are imperceptible to human eyes in any case.

Yes I like the description of that fella, is it Lovecraft or part of the Cthulhu mythos?
I will also have to draw a fully Ghouled up Pickman as well at some point too. I loved how the ghouls were such likeable and heroic characters in 'unknown Kadath' but terrifying monsters in 'Pickman's mode', so I am interested in showing that duality somehow.

The dual nature of the ghouls could be hard to depict - it was mostly as a product of his earlier Dunsanian influence, which resulted in the more psychedelic Kadath as opposed to his later style which lead to the debased ghouls of Pickman. As to Rhan Tegoth, the lad is indeed genuine Lovecraft, although his debut story was written as a collaboration with another author (Which lead to a more conventional pacing and some good attempts at action scenes). The tale in question is "The Horror in the Museum" if you need reference.

    New pic 2011

Thought I best wipe the dust off this thread and stick a new pic in.
This pic of the big fella was done for an Art Jam at work.

    These are awesome!

Mission Control: "Buckaroo, The White House wants to know is everything o.k. with the alien space craft from Planet 10, or should we just go ahead and destroy Russia?"

Buckaroo Banzai: "Tell him yes on one and no on two."

Mission Control: "Which one was yes, go ahead and destroy Russia... or number 2?"
