    First Post and life drawings...

Hi there folks. After dwelling in some other forums i have finally come here, because this seems to be the right place for showing some stuff..

Due to my new job as a project manager, i do not very often find the time to draw anymore. That's why i am happy to have joined a life drawing class, that allows me to spend three hours of constant drawing every once in a week.

Here are some of the results, all done in 1-15 minutes...

These are from the 6. november

C&C welcome. If someone might be interested in seeing all the life drawings i have done this year, there's the possibility to download them in one PDF-File from my page.

Have fun. This board is great.

hey good drawings you got goin there. Are u working with charcoal pencils? On newsprint? It kind of seems like you might be doing these in pencil...? I suggest you try using conte pencils. 1710 2 or 3b, paris france conte pencils to be exact. you can sharpen these to get a really sharp and long(1 inch) point. Then you hold them like you would a toothbrush, and draw like that. I don't know if you do this or not, but this is what I recommend. By holding it this way you get to use your whole entire arm to draw, and your not confined to the movement of your wrist. You also get to vary your line quality. This helps a lot, because you can accentuate areas in your drawing by making a line darker or lighter, or maybe no line at all where there is a lot of light.

I recommend checking out Bridgmans life drawing books. He was one of the master of life drawing. His book, which contains 7 books in one is under 20 bucks, and is pretty thick. but most importantly really helpful.

I also suggest that you capture the essence of the pose, don't always go for the details, but go for the GESTURE of the person in those short poses. It will help you get more fluidity in your drawings. kind of like the first one you have in "wednesdays drawwings". That first one is so nice because of its fluidity.

I hope this helps, and great to see your stuff.
    Hope to see more

    Hey, thanx for your reply.

I work mostly with pencil. but i am willing to try something else, so thank you for your advice, i am looking forward to lay hands on the stuff you recommend.

As for the books, i think i own most of them because i am kind of collecting every "how to" book available. So i already got Bridgeman, Loomis, Hogarth and tons of other stuff.

I am trying to create my own method of doing life-drawings and as you can see, i am still practising....

these are all fantastic! i just started a life drawing class tonight and it went pretty well. still tryin to find which materials will work best. i like the simplicity of your work, the accuracy of the line drawing holds up very well!

Hey, thanx man, that's very encouraging. I would love to see your life drawings for i am a big fan of your other paintings.

I am very critical when it comes to my own work and so i'm always unsatisfied, what might be the reason for me to go on.

But i really enjoy these lifedrawing classes, because i can simply concentrate on improving my way of looking at things.

This is, what i've done this week:

Thanx for your advice. It is true that i often chop of the head or feet, because i do not consider it to be that important, when concentrating on the body. (And i really have a problem with feet. Hmmm have to do some more feet only drawing)

But i will work on my sense of composition. Sometimes i get the whole figure on the page, sometimes not, but after all i hope it's getting better.

As for the books: At the moment i am reading all my way through nicolaides (the natural way to draw) and Harold Speed (The practice and science of drawing). On the stack for further reading is Ted Seth Jacobs (Drawing with an open mind) and of course all the books that i always use for advice: Loomis all of bridgeman, bammes and many more.

But it is still astonishing how all the great tactics seems to disappear, when it comes to actual drawing again....

Anyway, many thanx again for your words. I keep them sketches coming. Next wednesday is classes again))

Last wednesday was very bad. Half of my team in company has been fired, everybody was in a bad mood, the model was thin, the poses uninteresting, my hand clumsy and so on. Well no more excuses, i sucked, period!

nice drawings, seems you have a very confident line and good sense of form and light.
only suggestion would be to really focus on the underlying muscle and skeletal structure, i know that is what gets me sometimes.
