    Grrr....

Somebody smashed the perspex facing on my sign into bits. Looks like they kicked it. I have some spare perspex and have cut it to size.

Trouble is; it's held in place by magnetic strips, and the magnetic strips are held in place by double-sided sticky tape.

I need to get rid of the glue left behind after I've peeled the sticky tape off the magnetic strip. I have the feeling that if I leave old glue on, it'll compromise the "tack" of the new sticky tape.

I've tried nail polish remover (not much use) and methylated spirits (better), but there are still one or two stubborn patches that scrubbing won't move. Any ideas?

They make this stuff called Goo Gone you can buy here in the States at just about any store that sells cleaning products. It works really good. I'm sure if not Goo Gone you can find something like it.

Not sure if it will work, but have you tried just washing up liquid and very warm water? I've used that quite successfully to get rid of the leftover glue from old stickers before, though I dont know how much different sticky tape would be.

It's a mix of meths and warm water that got me this far. Soooo tempted to use wet and dry, but not sure it's a good idea...

Have you tried rubbing alcohol? It works for pine pitch, might work for tape goo...

I've had some success removing tape goo using Turpenoid Natural, too (the super-pungent citrus flavor of Turpenoid...)

British meths and American meth are not the same thing.

The British one is shorthand for generic non booze alcohol (methylated spirits), American one is crazy drugs. (methamphetamines)

It's like how "fags" is really different depending on which side of the pond you're on. Choose wisely before demanding either.

Try using a "magic eraser" (linked for your convenience) along with some generic cleaner. I think you should be able to pick them up in the cleaning section of most stores.

It's going to sound crazy, but they get off some incredibly nasty stuff.

I used to work as a high school janitor, and in the summers we'd have to clean off all lockers in the entire school. That means scrubbing off graffiti, tape left over from hanging up signs, all sorts of things.

We had to use box cutters and the like to get some of the tape off - but what got the "tape residue" off was a mixture of magic erasers, whatever generic cleaner we had, and you know...scrubbing.

If you haven't tried it already.
