    CA's Suggestion Book

It all began with a simple reply in a ongoing discussion taking place at another thread, in which most comments had the interest point of providing possible suggestions and enhancements to the foundation of the website. I searched around for a while and, still, couldn't find any place meant for community feedback, so I thought I'd go and create one myself. The following is what I posted on the above mentioned thread, to which I never got a reply:

    Jason,

Without trying to sound hypocrite, as per the newness of my status as a CA registered member, I would like to point out that some cleaning could surely bring a wally benefit to CA. There are loads of threads named wrongly, duplicated threads located in different boards (yet validly up for the same purpose!), inactive sketchbooks and the likes. I know cleaning is always a tad boring to do, especially considering the size and massive content there is around.

As true as that may be, I think you, we and the new comers would all benefit from it. It may take a while; chances are, you will waste -inbetween the Administrators and Moderators- a large sum of hours, but in the end, it all pays out, right? (Right? Right?!) I have also noticed (Pardon the extorted speech, but, whereas I have just registered a couple of months ago, lengthy has been the period I have been sneaking up on CA, as well as lurking about! It's almost been two years, actually! Status quo of a Professional Lurker, beware!) that some of the pinned/sticked threads are no longer being followed by their creators, these including some of the exercise-type there are.

On a more graphical-related note, has anyone considered a smoother theme? In the event of not wanting to change to a new theme; Has anyone considered trying to craft this one up so it feels more organized and minimal (in the sense that it is more seemingly implemented and doesn't suffer from many variants that could, hours after hours, cause distress in someone's poor vision?)

These are just suggestions. Typing them down as they pop onto my head! Feel free to add, change, or counter any of the already pointed out suggestions, if you will. I am sure we are all striving for the same goal: To make CA a better place, the best possible!

    With my best regards,
    Klaasillu.
While thinking (and reviewing!) my post, I figured I'd take a close look at the current CA's boards layout, so I could further understand what kind of organizing CA needs, in order to become fully functional and uncluttered. As I did that, the following alerted me/had my attention:

    1. Why is TAD section up on the top, as opposed to the true content of CA? I know TAD degenerated from CA, but as previously mentioned by Jason Marley, that does not mean TAD is CA, and vice-versa. If TAD is a sort-of CA's branch, then why have it on top? You could be using that prime seat to affairs greatly more related to CA, such as a "Bulletin-alike" board, with the highlights of what's down in CA, as well as a "Feedback/Suggestions" board, and so on. These are just suggestions --Feel free to change or counter them.

    2. In the "Artwork" category, there seems to be two kind of boards going on. The ones you showcase your work (Sketchbook, Critique/WIP, FF, Art Registry) and the ones where this showcasing becomes a mere component of the board's existence. I understand the latter as theme-showcasing-and-discussing kind of boards, except for the Photography Mob, which completely links you to a whole new CMS. Surely, people learn their ways around. These things are generally never a problem. They can just be better, which doesn't mean they're bad as they are. I just think it may be a tad confusing to the newcomers to adapt to a system that may not make full sense in its existence; and that offers unnecessary struggle. The forum is already massive, and to go past the initial fear of posting is already a huge step one must undergo. Wouldn't it be easier if things were a bit more clear and tidy? Then again, these are just suggestions. Suggestions you may agree/disagree with, counter and change to your liking.

    3. CA's community is very educationally driven. In that sense, I think all would benefit if the Educational Board was organized throughout, including a complex layer-system to ease the search of informative content. In other words, as par example; Have several sub-boards on the Tutorial board, each named to its specific (ex:. Anatomy, Lighting/Shadowing, Colour, etc). As a result, you'd have a much cleaner, easier to navigate, pragmatical and comprehensive wealth of information put at display. At least that's my take on it.

Truth is, I could go on and on with the organization thing. I wouldn't have an end to it, and that'd be a waste of both your time, as well as mine's. The point I am trying to bring down is that, within such a large and healthy community such as this, it is a shame to see it's not being used to its fullest. With just a few changes, you could significantly improve this community's impact and effectiveness, and that too would grow health to its main core.

That is all for now. Keep in mind these are just (I can't help myself to keep repeating this over and over. Sometimes too much is never too much, eh?) suggestions and thus, can be dismissed, neglected, changed, discussed, taken into consideration and countered. I would love to see other members using this thread as a place to throw suggestions in, so that hopefully CAv4 becomes a even better upgrade to the community.

    With the best intentions,
    and humblest regards,
    Klaasillu

Is this not to the community's interest, perhaps?

I am patient. It's just weird that a thread has gotten over 250 views and yet no one comments. I am not seeking to be paid attention. No. That's not the case. I was merely looking for the best to CA, and would like to know whether these suggestions are being considered, if they make sense, if...if, etc.

It's good to see CA is being redone. I figured as much, since the database went offline amid today's afternoon

Well made points. I have a few things in mind too, but like jason says, the new version is coming soon (there are preview pics from on of Jason's thread in the lounge somewhere), so i'll wait for that, looks very promising

Where can one happen to find such tempting pictures? Meanwhile, on a slightly less levant note, I would be very glad to see those suggestions of yours, as I would, to see other's coming along the way; all aiding and aspiring to a positive summarise of the community's most useful and relevant suggestions to the foundation of Concept Art and aso.

Anyone willing to point me to the whereabouts of those screenshots? Additionally, is really no one willing to suggest further possible improvements to make CA a better place? Weird motivation, this one, that drives people to post and socialise.
