AMAZING Old School 2D Game Backgrounds w/ Colour Cycling

    Hey Chaps & Chapettes,

Stumbled across this link this morning, and figured I HAD to share it here... Amazing 2D backgrounds from old school LucasArts games by Mark J. Ferrari. Animation done with a technique called "colour cycling" (color cycling if you're from the US of A)

Talk about stretching the limits of your hardware! These are gorgeous.

Played Loom recently. it's one of my favorite PC game, it from Brian Moriarty, so it has to be good.

Too bad the trilogy never got started.

Actually I worked there when Mark was working on Loom and Monkey. I was doing the cartridge stuff and he was doing pc stuff. When they released loom on cd I had to go in and touch up a lot of the art for the higher res cd.There was only eight of us in the art department. Mark was the color cycling king. Everything was done in dpaint and dpaint animator.Worked with Brian Moriarty, David Fox,Hal Barwood, Larry Holland and Noah Falstein.

I hear Mark is writing childrens books now. He also did beautiful traditional work, all in colored pencil.

Neopaint on the Atari ST used to have that colour cycling thing. I was always too dumb to get it to work properly and invariably ended up with a rainbow psychedelic mess..

    Cool stuff.
