    Man, what awesome sketches so far.

    Chris Proof: i like it, looks just like him ^^

    Glaudarian: Nice idea on going the graphical way, I am looking forward to see more.

    Argosh Ro:
    Why not going all the way ? Give him a flashy suit and all that gangsta stuff, with this giant golden clock XD
    And you should concider the rules about how much you need to show of him.

    Master Troglodyt: You should think about changing the layout before going any further. Father time is the topic of this round but in your sketch it appears more like its the woman.

    Now for my own. When I thought about time I just had to think about some old, mean man who is like a total bureaucrat. Alwas having a time plan for everything and using that "Take a number and wait" box.
    And when he appears to someone they try to talk to him like "No, I am too young, thats not fair" and he just answers "So what, you wanna tell me about live ?"

    I am still looking for the right clothes, but I am aiming for something simple, not too flashy.

    Wow, a lot of great sketches and ideas! I'm seeing the same old man in all kind of different personas.

    Aargh, this round is driving me mad! Drawing old men is a pain. Same goes for the abstract element of time. Ah well....no pain no gain right

    I seriously don't know where to go with it. Right now I portrayed Father Time as a crazy old man going trough to the ages telling people their time is up and grabbing their cool gadgets when they died. Think of him as a crazy grandfather type

    Attachment 1023968

    Aargh! Any thoughts are very welcome.

    EDIT:

    Okay, some more work. I'm getting more confident about it...

    RichLyons: Loving it! Although maybe the red numbers on the digital clock pull away too much attention from the dude. Maybe make them less red, or go for a LCD type display?

    Rich, I'm loving the design, the character sheet approach is a welcome change too. Oh and the Back to the Future reference is totally rad

    Vaejoun— Father time is still the topic of the sketch. I saw him as being a kind of witness to death; a marker of the passage from one life to another, etc. I'm going to play somewhat with the lighting, but this imagery feels right to me. I want the "character" of Father Time to be defined by his "presence" at the moment of death. In the future I'll spend more time doing something less illustrative, more like what the incredible RichLyons is producing currently.

    @Troglodyte:
    I am curious where you take the picture.

    At the moment I have a little trouble with him. Im not sure, if it works this way.
    Some C&C would be nice.

    Vaejoun, I think he looks to pedestrian atm, I understand you don't want him to be some big fantasy character, but he's looking a bit librarian'esq' . I like all the little touches your adding, like the belt buckle thing, and his staff, but perhaps give him more of a wise look, or give his clothing a bit more age?
    But it all depends how you want to approach it really? As a more understated sort of time 'keeper' character I think you're succeeding, so just keep pushing it!

    That was a horrible crit, I think I managed to contradict myself whilst at the same time not really say anything helpful :p sooooorry man, but yeah, I like it. He has a lot of character at the moment, it's just more understated. I feel like I could describe the place he worked in or lived in and the way he moves so I'd say you're on the right track

    mundi - Nice sketch man Its funny how many people thought of the collector thing hehe
    gdlr - lovin that little dude! is it kind of aztec? or native american theme? Whatever it is I really like it.
    ArtByManon- Cool Idea, kinda creepy hehe. I think it needs more elements to strenghten it though.
    Amedyr - The friendly dad persona is just a ruse right? hehe
    Sillirien - The first sketch is interesting!
    ARRGH! - Wow really cool sketch! Dont see much charcoal drawings, persuming it is.

    I was lost for a while but im slowly getting somewhere with this one.

    Richlyons: I would lose the back-view or take a serious look at the anatomy. There are some really strange things going on with the arms and right now they hurt the overall image even though I love the kittycat clock

    CHRONOS

    I finally learned how to draw! 7 Years of frustration, but I'm there, damn.

    Here are my thumbs for father time, along with a ton of little studies from Ilya Repin. it felt so amazing to be able to execute these rapidly and let them go.

    ArghosRo: How about some Bling chains with skulls attached, or something more subtle like a dead rose.

    Master Troglodyt
    : I really love your CHOW - however no matter how you choose to describe your scene, there is still a 3/4 rule - now this is my first CHOW so i don't know how leneant the rules are but surely if your piece is at risk of being declined because of the 3/4 rule then it would be easier to tweak it now while your at a sketchy stage rather than near the end. No offence intended btw.

    Okay i think i'm fully happy with this now. I have redrawn the whole image - staying quite close to the thumbnail but changing and adding some more elements to the piece and refining the colours and lighting more. Hoping to start rendering tommorow and getting this piece to the next level.

    However my only concern is that i may be worrying more about the overall image rather than just Father Time himself, and seeing how this is a 'Character of the Week' should i be putting more detail into the character himself?

    Glaudarien Thanks man, I redrew the hands since they looked weird, though I still don't think this works... Thanks on the suggestion of the chains and skulls, I kinda had that in mind, but after trying to find a way of fixing the arms I forgot. BTW I really like yours, where everyones time is on a hegestone or whatever you call them, and father time, watching over, its great!

    @Chris Proof:
    Really nice, he could make an appearance in WOW like that ^^
    The only thing that bothers me is the light. There seems to be an overall light from behind the viewer, a sidelight from the skythe and the blue shining from behind him.

    Try some paint overs on a new layer and look how it would look if you would reduce or remove this overall light. His face is so equally enlighted that you couldnt tell where the light comes from. I think some more shadows as indicators could give him more drama.

    @skMOP
    Try doing some more thumbnails, maybe you get another layout thats even better.
    If you want to stay with this one, then you will need to work some more on the arms and hands. His right arm looks a little stiff and the hand isnt holding the skythe the way it should. (Getting a ref is the best way to start a good picture)
    Keep it coming !

    Here my actual version. Not completely finnished I would say, but I am happy how it turned out so far. I still have trouble doing a concistant light and shadow situation for a realistic look. Any crits ?

    Took me a while to figure out why you posted a picture of someone doing street art, AndreRuben, after I saw your father time image though, I have to say that is pretty neat! Also, the image itself is really fun, looking forward to seeing more.

    Here goes the sketch, and I'm definantely going to be painting it this time. I'm going for a more subdued approach, and using this triangular setup to get an 'iconic' feel to the final painting.
