It's just an initial sketch though. I've got some more ideas designwise (with the hourglass and clockworks and other time-related stuff) to try out.

I decide to stop on second pict, I think first maybe is more interesting, but... anyway we have time. I always have big problems with colouring, I'l be glad to hear your critics!

Glaudarien: The one with the cast shadow is looking very good.. I'm sure you can throw in some features just subtly popping out of the silhouette?

Here are some very rough roughs of my thoughts. He has wings because.. Time flies. *wheeze* I've been waiting to say that for hours.

Sillirien: Thank you! you say you have problems with colouring perhaps paint your values in black and white and then use a colour overlay layer to add the colour in later, and then tweak the colours more at the end. I usually find that easier than starting off in colour.

VoxInaudita: Thank you, i think i shall try to define the sihlouettes more in the thumbnails to see how i can push the details into it. I prefer you first sketch as i love his crown and face - which shows that he's possibly of a higher order. Also i enjoyed your pun!

Still very unsure about these thumbs, though the 4th one along seems to be getting the most attention. I have combined 3 and 4 very qucikly to see if the two ideas work well together, though i'm still unsure.

I'll develop them some more and try to decide on a final thumb.

Let's see i'll try to throw some comments down -

    Pixeltuner
Pretty solid initial sketch, although i'd watch how close those feet are - they almost look like they're merging

    Kamikazuh
Looks cool, though i'm not sure what the story element is

    AhChu
Good initial - i'd prob try to introduce a little more time tech or something

    MasterTroglodyte
Intriguing first sketch!! Father time looks like an aging morpheus hahaha

    Si_Swe
Not much to crit, wanna see more!

    ChileanIggy
Interesting start - for some reason it reminds me of linework for a lost of flash animation i've seen

    VoxInaudita
Some cool sketches. Personally i'd work with that first one!
In regards to your suggestions, i did actually think about a big bling clock, but decided to try to keep him more in line with your average senior lol. And yes, the walker sides were sketched out like scythes (the whole trying to incorporate it into the design), although haven't quite figure out the nuts and bolts for that yet haha.

    ajaxplaysdice
Thanks mate I'm assuming the resemblance to religious imagery intentional? Kinda cool placement for that clock

    dkiearth
Keep going champ, be good to see how this turns out!

    RichLyons
Solid design as per your norm mate. I'm diggin the addition of the digital clock too. As usual im looking forward to you laying down some colours!

    ponderponder
Not much to crit yet, bring on the WIP's

    glaudarien
Very odd (but not in a bad way) start to your design. I'm actually really interested to see how the progress goes for this, keep goin

    Malakuko
Hahahahaa yeah i know ey lol. But looks can be deceiving you know? I mean look at yoda......
Anyway (hahaha can't stop chuckling) very unique design. Again, i wanna see more

    Sillirien
Both initial sketches look pretty sweet

    LostFayth
    MOAR WIP... lol

    Evil_comrad
Hehehe those numbers looks like corks on a bushman's hat (it's an Aussie thing lol)

    Feil Magnus
Nice linework, the same as a lot of people's comments - MOAR WIP's hahahaha....

    *Pant pant*
    I hope i didn't miss anyone..... o_0

On a side note - started throwing down some quick colours

Finished up a sketch, having now looked through the thread though I need to rethink, mine looks like lots of other peoples!

I think to think less of the old man wearing hood/robes, and more about...well anything else

Just brainstorming still, sort of thinking of Father Time as a part-flesh, part-automaton keeper of some sort of giant clock... I dunno, like the metal bits are eternal... Still very nebulous in my mind.

Malakuko: I say no guts, but how about a giant clock rammed in there instead? Could be interesting. Like how its going so far though!

Finished the thumbnails for now and i'm really quite pleased with them. I have chosen number 4 to try to develop further however after an hour i'm just not feeling very happy with it all and its not going how i want it to.

I think i'll just scrap it and try again tommorow.

This time I have to finish on time. I follow this thread every week and I started so many times but finished only one character design. Hopefully life won't get in the way this week. This is what I have so far, It's kind of cliché but here it goes. I want him to look very regal, not scary but not easily approachable either. His face shows the wisdom he has accumulated over time. Any comments or suggestions are more than welcome.

idoru - I like the clockwork idea, the way you've drawn him almost looks like he's one of those crudely motorized characters that appear out of the clocks when it chimes. Would be good to see him in a pose!

Zeitwolf - Some great thinking, seems like most of us jumped in without giving much thought to symbolism. Interested to see what you can come up with.

basti0n - Draw it on paper!!

madhatter106 - Thanks, glad it was noticed

    staticpen - go go go!!

ChrisProof - Some interesting design idea, but I think before you get too carried away with those you should correct his proportions, he's very short at the moment. If you don't already, it's always better to draw in the rough figure without clothes (especially with long cloaks) to get your basic proportions down 1st.

Malakuko - I think without guts is a bit too reaperish (<new word!). Maybe like glaudarien said add a clock, or maybe a pendulum or something if you want to be a bit more subtle.

glaudarien - I really liked you thumbnail process, really clear, and well presented (not that presentation matters but still).
I think having the bar of that window protruding vertically from behind his head is hurting your image atm, I'm not sure what you could do to replace it, perhaps just rotate the spokes so there's some negative space surrounding his head?

nAniA - He's got an oriental emperor vibe to him atm so regal....check!
I like the hour glass being incorporated into his scythe to.
I would be careful about getting too caught up in detail early on those, you've begun rendering the face before you have any other colour or values on the image. I'd suggest blocking the rest of the image in before rendering anymore!

A little more work, I shouldn't have posted the first wip really, still so much left to put it. I've added a few things and changed little bits and bobs. I toyed between putting a skull or a fetus in the area above his head, but in the end the skull worked better. I need to start adding in some more costume details, although I'm slightly worried I've made it too much of an illustration and too many more details may ruin it. Any ideas???
